Why do you put "acid" in quotes? Is it acid or not?!? YES, apparently it is, so don't use quotes!

12:40 Is the current plateau where polishing takes place determined through experimentation, or is there a formula? Could you cite the paper the diagrams are from? Thanks in advance!

Hello PuzzledProf: I wonder how I can determine the correct voltage/current to electropolish? Is it done by turning the knob of the voltage supply up until the current stays flat for a while?

i would like to know also, this makes sense based on the graph though

Very interesting, I am attempting to build a Brown's gas generator (electrolysis generator) but am having huge problem with the electrolyte turning red, this seems to be happing because of the iron on the 316 stainless steel plate surface, I did a couple of types of passivation but was not successful in stopping the reddish colouring appearing in the electrolyte, I'm wondering would your electropolishing method work? Am I right in understanding that the two solutions in the beaker need to be heated and if so what temperature? Great video.

316 should be fine for an oxyhydrogen generator. The red is usually iron from the plates corroding. Can't remember if due to excess voltage or current, but I am fairly certain it was current. There are recommendations to limit either voktage or current to a certain amount per square cm of each electrode. Back when I messed with it we just used those square 316 sheets, I think like 8"x8", or 6"x6" plates separated maybe 1/8 or so apart. But voltage was pretty low, 12v. Electrolyte was KOH or NaOH. Some people used both. Tl;dr 316 is fine, but your volts/amps/electrolyte or something else in your setup is not right and it's corroding your plates.

Hello, thanks for sharing very useful, I would like to ask you if the distance between negative and positive electrode affects electrochemistry? If yes, how is the distance calculated? I have made an electrochemical polishing experiment on the inside of the tube myself, but sometimes white stains like brooms appear, do you know what is the cause? Looking forward to your response, thanks!

Would this also remove any oxides on the steel? I have a problem with an high vacuum ion source which has discoloring on the surface from temperature and deposits from a tungsten cathode. how would i go about removing this surface deposit? Would this also work with 30% sulfuric acid?

You mix 85gm phosphoric acid and 172gm sulfuic acid? It means 33% phosphoric acid and 67% sulfuic acid okay?? Reply me please

Does it make toxic chromium gassed or compounds?
@10evBandgap3 жыл бұрын
Hi - no real problem with chromium toxicity and no toxic gas is evolved- the main hazard is handling concentrated sulphuric acid during the mixing process. hope that was useful reply and thanks for your question - we will make more in-depth videos soon
