this is really informative. There is not much material regarding BC XC skiing outthere. Especailly experience based.

Seems more people on full dh setups then xcd setups… I thought it would’ve been the other way around

Ladies and gentlemen, as Madshus is a norwegian manufacturer the brandname is pronounced "Mads hus" with the "hus" meaning "house" and itself pronounced "hüs" - unfortunately a letter non-existing in english.

Very interesting. I've been looking at many youtube video's in order to get knowledge exactly about this topic. I come from alpine skiing and only just started cross country/background/descending. I could not figure out for the live of me, why I was unable to turn on the 210 cm 55 mm nordic ski's. Your conversation explains a LOT. Also.... I have no, or very little grip on those long skinny ski's. I now figure they are too stiff for my weight. My weight is at the breaking point between 2 sizes. Now I don't know if I should go with the larger size (better slide) or the smaller size (better grip). Hmmm, something to think about. Thank you for your thoughts and explanations.

Glad we could help. Typically in more technical or challenging terrain if you're between sizes we would recommend sizing down. The difference in glide will be minimal, but you will definitely notice the difference in grip and maneuverability.

@@catamounttrailvt thanks for the insight, I was leaning toward that because now (on my test_dead_cheap_eBay_ski's) it is a challenge to get uphill. When the borders Cnd-USA are open again I hope to be in the opportunity to explore sections of the Catamount trail; it's approx 8 hr drive from NewBrunswick.

I used to ride tele back in the 80s and 90s on skinny skiis (60mm Karhu xcd gt) as a teenager. Then life got in the way for about 15 yrs (job, kids, etc). its been so awesome to rediscover the backcountry and find such a cool online community of backcountry-telemark-hok junkies. Thanks for posting this vid and giving us all a quick snapshot of gear options to lust over.

Really glad this came into my feed from 3 years ago and that you are actively responding to questions. I had the impression that there was/is a lot more fall line glade skiing, but this video showed only a glade traverse. Are you hiding the good stuff or maybe just hard to capture on video? I still want to come for a few days to this if/when the shuttle if running again. Living in Maine now I’m being respectful of the state’s quarantine request so thinking about next year.

Scott... As you descend into Nebraska Valley there is quite a bit more skiing to be had along the trail and on the slopes surrounding the trail. In this video there was a very stiff rain crust and we stayed close to the trail to take advantage of the broken snow from the group in front of us. If you ever want more info shoot us an email. You can find all of our staff contact info on our website under "About".

Anyone like Contour skins? Pretty solid product.

Contour makes a great product, but it's just not as widely available as the others. Would definitely recommend them.

Thanks for the gear share. Would love a video for an experienced skier (me) who's looking to go backcountry without breaking the bank. Also identifying trails that might be intro friendly.

Tele is still alive...just go to Mad River!

Yup, I rock the Madshus Annum with the Voile Hardwire on a 30mm riser and Scott Excursion boots. Not the fastest setup, but can go down anything and is ok for noodling around the flats little up and downs

I have the same setup, without the riser. I'm not that good with them but they are so much fun that I keep using them (getting better each time out!)

@@no-fogfaceshield7896 It's super fun! No need to go fast, just enjoy the outdoors. Keep pluggin away 👍

Great program! VT has so many back country options, both rolling and steeps. Tele is absolutely not dead, and steeper the better...bend those knees and get low! Favorite rig is 22designs axl binding mounted on Nordica Patron (113uf). Keep it up CTA!

Is it possible to ski the whole trail, without stopping?
@catamounttrailvt4 жыл бұрын
Not sure... The trail is over 300 miles long. It's probably not impossible, but it would be very difficult.

It’s 300 miles long... we never say never, but stopping occasionally would probably provide the best experience
