Concerning the Perfect Weapon movie, that's not kali but American Kenpo. And for Merantau that's Penchak Silat.

"The Perfect Weapon" film didn't use Kali. In '91 (i believe) the American Kenpo school adopted Kali stick fighting but the hand to hand in the film was strictly Kenpo which is why the film is known for having the best Hollywood representation of Kenpo in cinema

tony jaa's homeland martial arts is different but identical to escrima since both originated from the same root martial art in southeast asia... I can see why people get confused... siiiiigh... ~(- -~)... kali/arnis/escrima was brought over hundreds of years before the spaniards came... double blade (short swords) is my personal favorite... hehehe...
@jamespohh
@jamespohh 9 жыл бұрын
What is this crap? Jeff Speakman is Kenpo and Tony Jaa is Krabi Krabong. Star Wars fight choreography is movie-fu fencing and swordplay. Has nothing to do with FMA. Just because an art utilizes stick weapons doesn't mean it is FMA!

+jamespohh Light sabre fihts were patterned after kendo, not fencing. The prequels adde lots of flashy stuff from Wushu. As far as Kenpo is concerned depends on it's country of origin. American Kenpo as thought by Ed parker is derived from many other styles of fighting, so it's likely there are ifluences of it in their weapons, Ed Parker's kenpo is very much influenced by kenpo styles from Hawaii styles like Kajukenbo, Karahokenpo, and so on, all of whom adapted techniques fromSouth East Asian fighting styles Silat, Kungtao, Sikaran and etc.

Antonio Guamil Kendo IS fencing. Japanese fencing. And everybody knows the Jedi were modeled after the Samurai so it's not beyond the realm of impossible that's where they adopt the idea from. As for Kenpo you might as well throw Shaolin gung fu and the kitchen sink in there, if you're going with influences. The art as distinctly diverged since then to become something else. The stick fighting techniques might look like filipino martial arts, but there are distinct differences in how they are used esp the patterns of usage, blocking and attacking that are not Filipino. If you say the paralleled evolution of double stick fighting has occurred throughout the world, then I'll give you that.

But the influence of kali is there in all other martial arts. Kali has its origin way back 1200 century AD during Indian influence to indigenous ethnic groups in the Philippine archipelago. Kali is an Indian term adapted by the indigenous. It is basically the use of TWO swords, then they developed the use of it in centuries as a DOCTRINE of self-defense and survival against invaders according to Philippine history. I guess all other martial arts and techniques were not yet born at that time.

the reason why this was not brought to the world is because, this art is deadly... the aim is to attack with deadly precision without giving any avenue for the victim to react. This is Kali/escrima/arnis and this is all about.
