How dare you call an older woman ugly because she's become old. Such disrespect, such misogyny.

SMH! That’s how the story goes. This path of Oshun is Ugly. Stop lookin go for problems where there are none. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank your for this episode! I listened the other day and resonated a lot with the reflections! I particularly resonated with two things, 1. The note on how Shango holds Oshun as a prisoner, I reflect on some things I've experienced, some things I've witnessed in others, and also something I've seen in a film. Has anyone ever experienced where a Man will sort of hold you like a treasure? Like, they glorify your beauty, your strength, your poise etc. BUT they disassociate from you sexually/physically and with hold intimacy...but they hold you in place/relation? I think it connects to this pattern where, they want to hold you, but they know that to meet you in intimacy is to take on a lot of responsibility and face a lot of things... I reflect on Eve's Bayou, where the Daddy was cheating on the mama with the whole town, but he wasn't engaging her or their family properly. He was holding Lynn Whitfield like a trophy, and she was locked in this thing of expecting him to love her eventually, because he was a healer, and surely a healer would provide. 2. The note on how they could not leave Oshun behind, I'm thinking about how, Capitalism promotes the neglect/dissassociation from love/Oshun/nature. But ultimately, like you said, there is no success without the care and nurture of land, water, home, family, intimacy etc. I've been doing a lot of prayer work on how to navigate my self worth in relation to masculine energies and how dynamics are influenced and obstacles by capitalism and its rigors. This video helps to affirm the intuitions I've been receiving from God, to know that I am worthy of care and nurture. I have been processing that to truly love these masculine energies is to develop a capacity for saying no, in self advocacy, though, saying no is not the same thing as rejection, so much as it is caring and intentional direction, and it can be done very sweetly and softly, but also in absolution and high self esteem. The men may fight at war, but Oshun makes sure they have a world to return to after the battles, and that is important.

Because she should have learned from her sister that he didn’t appreciate the intrusion… find your own resources to create… didn’t she cut a man’s tongue out because she didn’t want her secrets exposed…. Women have a lot of double standards with them.

As an Omo Oshun, I have gained great understanding regarding compassion and communication. The best way to retaliate against abuse and neglect is not wrath, it's absence. Thank Olodumare for creating this beautiful spirit, Ashe!

This is so relevant. Thank you. 💐Me and my husbands orisha is Obatala and we’ve challenged each other a lot (unintentionally). He’s a Aries and I’m a Scorpio. Our neighbors challenged us a lot and we’ve been in physical disagreements. When I’m peaceful and agreeable, people have run over me and forced me stand up for myself often. I’ve been in so many physical, spiritual and legal battles. It’s draining and ostracizing. My favorite color was white before I found out he was my orisha.

Honestly, I think it's the cheekiness of the situation that astounds Osun. Orunmila did not disrespect her and then continue to do so, he layered a disrespect with serenading. Like she must have been flabbergasted, annoyed and just thought of the whole situation as silly cheekiness and daring.

There's so much to unpack from this story. For example, how she still is depicted as having 'good character' even though she had 4 husbands and several children from different fathers - my fellow yorubas today would surely turn their nose up at her. Or how she moved fluidly between marriages and it was so not a big deal that she was previously married. Or as you said, that Orunmila - a great orisha, did not want to possess her but to be in her presence!!! gosh, I wish to read more about this! Tired of reading the bible where women are forever denigrated and an object of possession and only important when annexed to men!

She didn’t save Ogun, she saved society. As a child of Ogun I resonate with this story deeply.. I absolutely hate the way my father Orisha has been treated in the patakis and it still bothers me. People only call for me when they need something, and I’ve felt outcasted in so many ways. Growing up it took me to show extreme violence for people to respect me and leave me alone. I grew up and became a Machine Gunner in the Marine Corps. When I found out I were a child of Ogun it hurt me deeply because of the pain I share with him, I would’ve never chosen this fate. It’s taken me down a dark rabbit hole and I’m starting to feel that maybe love isn’t meant for me. Maybe I’m just a metal man that came here to help humanity evolve regardless of my misery. Realizing that I must love myself because it’s not promised that no one else will.. Ogun Ye

When it comes to our spiritual beliefs, our Orisha/deities, our cultures, styles, behaviors, attitudes, and manners, these "scholars, historians, archivists, etc..." will always, and have always use negative, deplorable, degrading, salacious, pornographic, obscene, crude, vulgar, exploitative and lewd words to describe OUR Women, OUR Men, OUR children, OUR cultures. There is nothing (i might be making up some words here 😊) harlettic or prostitutive about the sensuality, regalness, honorable, dignified Being that is Oshun and EVERY OTHER DIVINELY FEMININE ORISHA!!! Even in our daily lives today, whenever there is a Black Woman that is popular she MUST BE REDUCED to a salacious standard. And, WE AS BLACK WOMEN MUST NO LONGER ALLOW THESE HORRIFIC WORDS DESCRIBE US, OUR ANCESTORS NOR OUR ORISHA/DEITIES!!! WE MUST STOP USING NEGATIVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE OURSELVES, OUR MEN, OUR CHILDREN!!! WE ARE NOT BITCHES AND NIGGAS!!! WE ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DESCRIBE OURSELVES DEGRADINGLY!!! UNLEARN THESE NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS EMBEDDED IN US, BRANDED ON US BY THOSE WHO HATE US!!! STOP HATING OURSELVES AND SEE THE GREATNESS, THE DIVINITY, THE SACREDNESS IN US THAT THEY SEE AND HATE!!! SPEAK TO AND ABOUT ONE ANOTHER WITH LOVE, JOY, SUPPORT, KINDNESS, GRACE, ECT... AND WATCH HOW OUR SITUATIONS/LIVES CHANGE. NO MATTER THE LIFE STYLES ANY OF OUR PEOPLE LIVE IN. STOP CALLING ONE ANOTHER RATCHET and GHETTO, find POSITIVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE THEIR STYLES and WAYS, WORDS ARE SPELLS AND THE MORE NEGATIVE WORDS WE USE TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER AND ALLOW OTHERS TO USE TOWARD AND ABOUT US... THE WORST THE SPELL/CURSE IS!!!! IT'S HIGH TIME WE TELL OUR STORY AND LET IT BE A POSITIVE STORIES AT ALL TIMES!!! OUR? PEOPLE ARE GREATER THAN DEGRADATION!!!
