Love how they explain how and why the authentic tech roller dnb sound is pretty much lost. I remember when things noticably begun to change , still good tunes came out but that old sound cant be beaten imo

Wormhole was a product of it's time, every other album since then was also the case

They didn't change, they just stopped making music when there was no place left for their analog only sounding approach to making music, due to the contrasting digital brightness every other tune being made by then had, that their tunes would not work alongside in DJ mixes, nor compete with in regards to over all loudness.

the old tech step sound/vibe is just so badass. so much attitude. I love it how they just get a really simple short abrasive sounding groove and repeat it so that the listener can really get into it. that gritty abrasive quality is gone forever, that's why we all rinse the classics still!!
@lukey1210 Жыл бұрын

They're talking about the analogue sound being so much better than digital but yet all these drum and bass producers are making everything digital now so they actually fell victim to the very thing that they say is not as good
@ashadeofnight6 жыл бұрын
digital always lacks a certain depth. it sounds "flat" and poor production really highlights that.
@k.c.lejeune66136 жыл бұрын

I know what they're talking about with the difference in levels. The old stuff has a lot more dynamics and does sound more natural, whereas the new stuff sounds smashed to bits.
@CraZeHeLlGaSt8 жыл бұрын
+lambd01d alot sounds the same these days
@Abruzzo3332 жыл бұрын
Yep, in many ways D&B has become a victim of it's own 'next level technical production' persona. The music that was made with hardware samplers, effects and mixing desks sounds much more organic and three dimensional....compared to the sterile, super compressed, clean newer drum & bass... which to me sounds very flat and two dimensional as a result. In Rock/Pop they call the period of the last 20 years 'the loudness wars' and basically consider it part of the reason that music of the last couple decades is kind of rubbish. As a result, many producers have now started to back off of those production techniques for a more natural sound but I don't think drum & bass producers got the memo.
@CalvinL.Stevens Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The old stuff also incorporates what I consider the real Dnb sound a lot more. A lot more emphasis on reese basses, less dramatic drops...
