Hello Peter. I am considering building the Seacliper 10 next spring. I would like to obtain your authorization to use passages from your videos on my KZbin channel to present my new project to my subscribers. Looking forward to your response. Sincerely. Bruno

Hi Peter, Sailor John here from Aust. I am happy to report that the restoration of my Seaclipper 10 is nearing completion, I have retained my Hobie Islander Spinnaker, which should be great for reaching and downwind work, as far as I am aware this is the only Seawind here on the West Coast so no competition other than a fleet of home made trimarans, will send some photos when we hit the water. Hi John, I haven’t come across any ideas for folding amas but if I do I’ll pass them along. Have you contacted the designer, John Marples? He would be a likely source of info. My brothers and I built 4 of these boats and launched in 2014. We are just now preparing to launch them for their 10th season. They have stood up very well and we continue to have great fun with them. We sail from Lang Bay, British Columbia. Good Luck with your project! Let me know what you come up with. Best Regards, Peter.

@@petermaitland4899 Hi there again Peter, and thank you for your reply, I have tried to find an email address for the Designer, alas with no success other than a telephone no, I would appreciate if could assist with his email address. PS I am working on my new craft making alterations that would suit my requirements, I have recently “retired” from sailing my Hobie Islander which I have sailed for 6 years, I am looking forward to not being exposed to the elements on a constant basis and being able to keep stuff dry! Perhaps this new craft is more age appropriate! I have just turned 80 and am very keen to do some coastal cruising! Again many thanks! Sailor John

Hi, I know this has been up a while. What kind of sustained speeds do these boats make?
@lianmait14
@lianmait14 Жыл бұрын
Hi Christian, these boats are not fast. I have sustained 7-8 knots with the spinnacker up and on a hot angle. Otherwise 4-5 knots is about it. Being so close to the water it feels very fast. They are fun boats and can handle 20 knots of wind with a reef in.
@christiansmith2730
@christiansmith2730 Жыл бұрын
@@lianmait14 , thank you. I’d say 7-8 knots is pretty fast for a 10’ boat with an adult on board! Also, the construction does seem heavier than it needs to be. Perhaps if it was built lighter one could get a tiny bit more speed, but probably it’s more limited by waterline length than anything. I’m considering ordering the plans, but modifying it for traditional sailing ergonomics. In other words, hiking out to windward, along with using a scissor folding system somewhat similar to the larger seaclippers, but the floats would swing straight in against the main hull, rather than fold back towards the stern. The idea behind this is to use it as a dinghy for my 24’ tri. Folded it would just fit on the trampoline, and serve as a row/motor dinghy in the folded position without the rig and foils, but also unfold to sail when the mood suits. Because I’d be hauling the thing onto the tramp for storage while sailing, I’d have to build it as light as possible.

Hi there Sailor! I am currently contemplating buying a Seaclipper 10 here in West Aust it was professionally built, I am seeking to modify the fixed amas to folding ones, do you know if the design that they use on the 16 and 20 is suitable for the 10? Sailor John

How well does this boat go to windward without the daggerboard down? I am considering this boat for some shallow water. Thanks.

These boats seem to go to windward equally well with or without the dagger board. I sometimes leave the daggerboard at the beach.

Hello! What's the wind speed on that footage ? The seaclipper 10 seems to have a very good capability in handling choppy seas ?
@petermaitland4899

The wind speed was 12-15 knots. The Seaclipper feels very stable and safe (and fun) in this kind of weather. It’s wet though ....

@@petermaitland4899 Thank you for your reply. Do you have more footage related to the construction ? What do you think about the weight of the hull given the 1/4 (6mm) inch plywood ? With hindsight, what would you have done differently ?
@petermaitland4899
@petermaitland4899 5 жыл бұрын
JWalkind3 I have lots of stills but no video of the construction. My brothers and I each built one so we have a fleet of four. The boats are a heavy lift for two guys. We launch on a beach using a custom wishbone trailer pulled by a battery powered trailer tugger that I built for the purpose. The only thing I would do differently would be to epoxy coat all the interior surfaces BEFORE assembly, not after.

The boat carries a spinnaker with two sheets and two guys (port & starboard.) . Other lines include the spin halyard, main halyard, reefing line, outhaul, downhaul and vang. Behind my shoulders there is a traveller and a rudder hold down.... With the foot pedal steering there are two hands free to manage all the lines. Its a very fun boat.
