The light system is for one thing and one thing only: safety. You are not supposed to back into or out of a dock on red to avoid the risk of pulling away when someone is still in your trailer or backing in when the dock plate or other mechanisms are malfunctioning. Green light does NOT necessarily mean you are free to go... generally, you need your paperwork and some form of ackowledgment from staff that you are done. Thats not to say it hasn't become a de facto means of telling us that our paperwork is ready and we are done at many shippers/receivers... it just was not intended for that purpose and it cannot be assumed that that is true everywhere.

I couldn’t just sit there for 5 hours lol. Jobs like trucking are so monotonous I just can’t do it. Would be nice to travel, but that’s the only good thing. If I sat there for 5 hours that truck would already be unloaded right there on the ground outside the dang door lol

It depends on who you work for.... If you have to give more than an hour for free before you get hourly pay then it sucks. Especially if it's chicken shizz $$. I hauled groceries and the first hour was free on me but then I'd get $23/hr sitting in the sleeper napping, making lunch and watching TV... So $69 for 4 hours wasn't too awful. But I completely understand your point too

It's really common sense but they out there. The ones that don't learn nothing, distracted on a phone or whatever. Green means go and red means stop!!! It's not hard at all and could mean someone's life if you screw it up!!! A good trucker will check regardless of the color to be safe!!!

It does not. Until you get your paperwork that light means shit. I don’t know how many times a day I have to tell drivers to get back in the door because one thing or another and they try to tell but I have a green light.

@@sethnmarshall yeah that goes without saying for most but again there are some idiots out there for sure. I didn't clarify but was talking about wen the unloading is complete and the driver has been given their bills. Then you should still physically look for a red light a closed dock door with a retracted dock plate!
