The VFL did create a monster with the AFL and new teams.....and then stupidly handed the controls to an interstate loser, a wallflower. ( think he was Sth Australian but might have been from WA ). Everything Ross Oakley touched turned to shyte.....worse if he originated it. Every team i know of had just as difficult a start as The Eagles, and most VFL clubs had it even tougher. No way they would make it easy for a new club to be established easily. To make it to the top you must earn it. All the VFL expansion clubs did it a lot tougher than the Eagles or any other interstate club that followed. Footscray ( the Western Bulldogs ) are still fighting to be established, Nth Melbourne got themselves established in the 1970's via dubious political manouvering, but are now back to square one.....now the political support is no longer propping them up. Fitzroy built themselves into a powerhouse from nothing.....a poor club in the poorest of locations that succeeded until politics and bad management killed it. Sth Melbourne was originally gilded with gold leaf , until bad management turned the gold to marzac. Then politics ( Jeff Kennett ) sold the club out in favour of his preferred Soccer club . Jeff tried to do worse to Hawthorn but the members defeated him. Then the Hawthorn board was bought out by Kennett and his gangster bosses from the Demons, and Kennett was made president of Hawthorn, the club he had just tried to destroy by giving it and all its wealth ( property ) to the Demons. There was never any sale here, the Melbourne Footy Club was to inherit all of Hawthorns recent success, history, glory and wealth for nothing.....a gift. Thank god the members voted NO while the vichy committee was demanding and then pleading for the YES vote . I hope none of those traitors ever got paid what they were promissed for a YES vote.

West Coast Eagles was the original team for anyone that love the WAFL and supported WA football. Bizarrely increasingly over time, people returned to Victorian supported teams. Especially those that didn't like Malthouse's temperament and those who tended to be conservative and preferred the status quo pre AFL. But fact is that VFL was ripping off WA footy and without the Eagles the WAFL and WA football industry would have gone under. If you're a believer in WA football and a Sandgroper then there should be little alternative but to barrack for the Eagles or Dockers - its that simple. To barrack for the 16 other teams, is basically supporting a club 2000km away who rarely plays in Perth and tries to avoid it where possible. And furthermore does anything in its power to weaken the WA footy industry.

I remember the early days of The Bears, it was a blessing and a curse. Being an Adelaide boy growing up I loved the "Footy" and followed the Glenelg Tigers all my childhood years. Port Adelaide being the perpetual enemy. My parents moved us to Brisbane in 1980 when I was 15 yrs. old. First thing I did on the weekend was watch t.v. to see how the local Brisbane league worked and what the teams were. I don't need to tell you just how disappointed I was to find that there was ZERO Aussie Rules played here and if you wanted to watch a VFL game you had to wait until about 1:00 in the morning on a Sunday night (Monday morning) and they might have a replay of one game from that weekend. Aussie Rules was (although not unheard of) frowned upon by the general public and referred to as that stupid game from down south. It was a nightmare, just talking about Aussie Rules in those days in Brisbane marked you as an outsider. Then the Swans moved to Sydney (the other NRL State) and I saw a glimmer of light. Finally when I read (in a newspaper story buried in the middle pages of the paper) that the VFL / AFL were considering a Brisbane team, it was like Christmas all over again. No need to tell you the team I've been barracking for ever since, and there were some dark days boy, some terribly dark days.........

How did you miss The Match Of The Day on channel 7 every Sat' afternoon, starting at 2 pm ? Although originally banned from Brisbane TV by XXXX and the other big tv advertisers, it was never ignored by the majority of the qld public.... just hated and feared by League , politicions and those with lots of money invested in League. When 7 first showed the VFL match of the Day on Sat aftrrnoons it quickly became the highest rating tv show in Qld......so it was banned. It was finally allowed back in the early 1980's or sooner with different sponsors and advertisers allowing Channel 7 to call the bluff of the other big Qld companies , like XXXX ( 4 EX Beer ). As far back as 1969 games on the Gold Coast ( a minor league ) could have a bigger crowd than the Rugby League game at Lang Park . From the 1960's through to the 1980's it was common for Aussie Rules in the Brisbane League to pull bigger crowds than the Sydney League games. Admittedly, the big crowds on the Gold Coast were mostly free admittance, but the finals at the Southport Show Grounds ( The Magpies home ground ) were not free and always packed.

Shultz wanted to go home Henry was a feeble player for Freo, and would not be picked in preference to sharp today The 5 players who left in 2022 were all redundant, none of them were in the best 22 Think your trope through before carelessly regurgitating how Freo lost so many players lately Since the midseason draft came in, all teams are shedding at least 8 players per season

Would Max or Ben King be better players at a better club in Hawthorn? Trade a 1st round draft pick, and get one of the king boys and an early 2nd round in return. Maybe I'm dreaming, but there may not be anymore genuinely good forwards by the time it's Hawthorns turn at the draft...... Their midfield looks good. A couple more good defenders, and they look ready for a premiership window to open in the next 2 years

It looks like the Hawks first round pick could be a natural 6-10 which translates to a 8-13. Not nearly enough to get either. We could throw in a second rounder and Jiath maybe? IDK if that would satisfy GC or the Saints. They would prob want two good first round picks, one at worst a top 5.

You folks should "read the room" once in a while. The days of Melbourne & Geelong type top ups are OVER! The only clubs interested in letting FA's move on are the one's heading in to a heavy rebuild who are looking to pad out their draft hands (Richmond). Hawthorn has to compete with 10 other clubs, many of which are more preferable destinations when it comes to out of state Victorians. They have no draft hand and are literally "stuck" in the middle, so it's no wonder they send off posse's to seduce the likes of Perryman.

This is one of the worst take I've ever heard. Hawks are arguably the 2nd most attractive club in Victoria, they look prime for flag contention within only 2 years with a young list. Idk what you are talking abt with there draft hand, it's fine & they have the most or 2nd most salary cap space in the comp. If u want money, success & long term afl career you would choose hawthorn. Terrible take.

I lived in Sydney ages ago and could never understand why the NRL got horrible crowds (in comparison to the VFL/AFL and even VFA crowds back in the 70s, 80s and 90s). The Swans move made much more sense than most people realised either in NSW or in VIC. The Swans finals record since their move is nothing short of incredible and despite the nostalgia for South, it's great to see them come into their own in Sin City.
