I love the concept of Backlist Bash - so creative! I joined GR in 2014, so there's a lot of old books on there... whoops! And it's so unfair that being sick is the perfect time to read but we rarely have energy to actually read!

Hope you’re feeling better now!! And congrats on the series progress - it’s such a challenge finishing them 😅 I’m pretty happy with my 2024 reading overall even tho I had some real duds and not as many favorites as I would’ve liked. This year I really want to prioritize my translated fiction since that was a gap in 2024!

What a cool series! I'd have to guess my oldest unread ones are probably some of the later books of the House of Night series. I thinking I stopped at book 7 and I have through 9. So I've had those since 2011 or so. I know that series aged like milk though (I was reading them in like 2009-10). It would be reading totally for nostalgia's sake if I reread them/finished more of the series. I might have some partly read ones that are even older... it would be interesting to see
@eliotts.library8 күн бұрын
Omg I looooved those books when I was a teenager! I only read up to book 9, but I still think about that one couple with the bird dude sometimes, they were so good. But yeah the rest of the series was pretty bad in hindsight 😂

My lowest rated last year was Bloom by Delia S Dawson. I get why people liked it, but it did not work for me. I loved the premise and a lot of the descriptions. But there was so much more they could have done with it regarding the ending and I was endlessly frustrated with the writing. Like I said, pretty descriptions -- but after so many, there was a pointless repetitive and awkward summary or comment at the end of the paragraph. I could have gotten behind the MC making such absurd choices, but with the weird writing choices, it was more irritating However, the longer I sit on the book, the more I wonder if I need to reread it anticipating camp rather than a more serious book. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more then.
@eliotts.library20 күн бұрын
I’ve heard a lot of people say that about Bloom! It sounds so good and I still want to read it eventually, but yeah maybe going into it expecting camp would help you enjoy it more. I’ll keep that in mind when I get to it!
