The aesthetic of this set isn’t my favorite, but there are a few interesting options here. I’m seriously considering a riff on Greasefang in Mardu for Pioneer, because Kolodin does work in that kind of build. Mendicant Core is one of the first Azorius commanders in a while that I want to build, but only if I can figure out an interesting “narrative” for the deck. All the other ones that excite me (Ketramose, Captain Howler) are in colors that I already have several decks, so I’m not as hellbent to run out and build them yet.

For Grimgrin, you can build it as an aristocrat/voltron deck because it doesn't specify a creature type for the sac fodder and his ability isn't once per turn. So you make a bunch of tokens, sac them to grimgrin to make him huge, give him keywords, and swing for lethal damage with his built in removal on attack declaration. You can also put in cards like pitiless plunderer, blood artist, and mirkwood bats so you gain resources and do damage while you create and sac away your tokens. I've had a lot of fun playing him that way. You can also do the obligatory infinite with Gravecrawler and Rooftop Storm if you really want your table to hate you lmao.

Ivy is a BLAST! I call it my Stole-tron deck. I do have 3 mutate cards in the deck, but I've won a ton with her without ever hitting the mutate cards. She's great to play against a voltron deck.

I've been having fun with Teysa, Opulent Oligarch by leaning into both the Spirit and clue generation. My deck is built around spawning spirits, and draining/gaining life whenever a creature or permanent is sacrificed, and because I have multiple ways to generate both of those things I'm always pinging my opponents for damage. I like it a lot, the rest of the board doesn't seem to like taking perpetual chip damage for 5 minutes straight as I sacrifice all the clue generated over the game to kill somebody with 1 damage ticks. Or just instakilling them with exsanguinate once they reach the magical threshold of no return.

What does anything mean? “Meaning” itself is a construct, tethered to context and perception, yet fleeting as the whims of an infant. Perhaps my words are a mirror, inviting you to ponder not the “what,” but the “why” of your search for significance in the infinite ephemeral.

I'd also highly recommend inspiring statuary to use your blood tokens for ramp as well

Came here just to see where you put Grist the Hunger Tide, glad to see she made Very Fun. I’ve had a Grist deck for the better part of the last five years (built her while I was working on my entomology degree) and she’s such a blast, fun support for an underrated tribe and enables both graveyard and aristocrats shenanigans. Plus as a Planewalker commander she’s surprisingly resilient

I have a Volo, Bonny, Omo and Arixmethes deck. Out of those, I think Volo is the most fun to build because of the restriction, and Omo is also pretty fun to build because of all the synergies her ability enables. Bonny is simple, but pretty effective, and Arixmethes is also pretty simple (ramp and eventually big guy), so I tend to play those when I don't want to think and just play big meatpiles.

I have an Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief enchantress deck, it was formerly a mutate deck but I found the mechanic to be too weak. Whenever I take it out it becomes a convoluted mess that only I can understand, too many copies, too much card draw. For that reason I don't even play it anymore but I still make changes to it from time to time. I usually finished the game with a long ass turn where I drew almost my whole deck and put poison counters on everyone through Venerated Rotpriest shenanigans. Alaundo and precon Zimone have been on my radar for a while. Both seem very cool and powerful, Alaundo might be more difficult to build. I'm thinking on trying one of them.
@BRBMTG13 күн бұрын
Yeah that is my fear with Ivy. It just gets so complicated. I have toyed around with the idea of building a combat trick Ivy deck that uses green spells that put counters on things. Or keyword counters. Alaundo seems great with a ton of untappers since his ability removes time counters. So with the right combination of cards you can probably have some insane turns.

I too thought Radagast would be a fun build so I built it last year. The deck leans towards beasts more. Since he is a wizard who is in tune with nature, most of my interaction spells are turning opponent’s creatures into little frogs with no abilities which is hilarious. Definitely a fun deck which can be scary with alot of beasts/birds coming down hard in the end game (craterhoof of course is in there).

For Doc Aurlock... Foretell is the one that plays on exile, if I remembered correctly. Simic deck that I still have and I think it's fun to play is Zimone, All-Questioning. I like the gameplay progress that I have to calculate how should I play to get enough lands to match the prime numbers, by both search lands, play lands in the graveyard and bounce land (or sacrifice lands). When you get token with 7, 11 ,13, 17 power every end step is a really good payoff.

As a simic die hard, you know it’s bad when your playgroup claims every one of your decks is just Simic in other colors. My favorite deck by far is Aesi, because you can build this really cool sea creatures deck built around cards like whelming wave. That said I agree that coma, (original) is disgusting especially in larger pods. (Pardon the aggressive auto-correct)
@ac_nerd979416 күн бұрын
I agree with you. Aesi is phenomenal. I'm actually working on a deck with Aesi, and it's mostly merfolk/sea creature tribal with Whelming Wave being a good piece of the deck.
@SamySapphyre16 күн бұрын
So I'm a hater of simic because imo it's commander on easy mode - ramp, card draw, combos, protection and counter spells are very strong in this format and the colour combination is probably the strongest. I've tried so many different simic decks and disliked them all. I recently built Bonny Pall which doesn't seem fun, but after play testing a few decks I was hooked. My deck focuses on removing the legendary rule to make as many Beau's as possible. The commander is quite powerful with the card draw attached, but the purpose of the deck requires a lot of perseverance and work to make it 'do the thing' which means it isn't as straightforwardly powerful. It's definitely one of my strongest decks but piecing things together makes it fun...
@BRBMTG16 күн бұрын
That is kind of how I feel about the older Simic commanders. I think some of the newer ones are more interesting. And I’d love to see a list! I enjoy hearing about the cards people thought were meh and ended up loving.

Of all the bloomburrow precon commanders, I would totally pick zinnia over bello. There's so many different fun ways to build zinnia. Lately my favorite version of her deck is one where I'm running 20-30 copies of hare apparent. Besides just being able to pump out an absurd number of bunny tokens, I love how flavorful the theme is. It's like a rabbit fertility experiment that got way out of hand.

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist's mechanic is so unique I love playing her. Menace makes her or any of your creatures unblockable. You can go voltron, go wide or just try to keep her tapped for protection while you do whatever. When only 1 thing is probably coming at you it opens up interesting protection cards like [Righteous Aura].
@stalkerstomper330423 күн бұрын
Kuh-lun? It's pronounced Chew-lane my friend. Otherwise, interesting deck idea. I like it! Some suggestions for protection that are excellent budget options... Curator's Ward,, Shielding Plax, Alpha Authority, and Canopy Cover. Lastly, Scapegoat and Paradoxical Outcome are great ways to asymmetrically save your board while leaving the opponents boards vulnerable in response to board wipes.

i wanna see a creature only 1v1 100 card format, with a points system like Canadian Highlander. It would require hella testing but it makes a little more sense than u did in ur video. what is the goal of a pile if it's a big sideboard for mander? isnt the point that u can play whatever cards u want in between games?🤔
@seansanchez371026 күн бұрын
you havent explained anything about what pile is or how youre getting more than 100 cards without breaking the rules. it sounds like what youre doing is using a sideboard that is way bigger than it needs to be to the point the deck isnt the same thing as it was. boo 👎
@GlenGravy75625 күн бұрын
I mean it definitely is just a big unofficial sideboard. Nothing new. Might be fun in certain decks but mostly it'll be terrible since it'll throw off your mana balance and there will be very little synergy. You need a really flexible commander to make it work
@SwedeRacerDC26 күн бұрын
I have seen a friend do this and would like to do it. It just never is at the top of my priority list. I think it is hard to commit to right now unless you have a dedicated play group who still remembers the original spirit of the format and appreciates variance. Some types lend themselves to this type of deck better, but even still, the average EDH games are pushing more and more away from variance into consistency as the majority of content creators push this in a way that just breeds a confused format in limbo between hyper casual and hyper competitive and it just sucks the wind out of your cool deck idea when someone drops a turn 4 combo win. It seems like my games in the wild are 50% fun whether I win or lose and 50% a waste of my time.

Nice decktech again .. although i usualy don't like white ^^ Always refreshing to see list that are not just copy paste from EDHRec. BUT since the format is called "elder DRAGON highlander" lets keep it real for the next one! "Inferno of the Star Mounts" for the mono red dragon decktech. The hook with that list: It's a tribute to the infamous Shivan Dragon. So build Inferno around his Firebreathing ability to spread pure, red insanity across the table. I had build a list around that fire breathing effect, but it relied a bit too much on combat for my taste. Would love to see how you egnage that Idea :)
@tdot828029 күн бұрын
Cards like Roaming Throne are kind of an overkill in a Clone Miirym list. Also combos (especially when they are known) just increase the already high faceaggro even further. Better options for these card slots are protection or more ways to bring dragons on the board fast, keep the hand full and so on.
