Sorry for the extremely late response - yes it is. It is a Clansman PRC 320 unit as used by the British Army from circa the 1970s to the 2000s. It has since been replaced by the new Bowman system, but it is still useful as a rugged ham radio unit. I'm using the whip antenna on mine, the handset microphone/speaker, and it's being run off a single rechargeable (and heavy) Clansman battery.

I would, but I don't know the source of them. buzz.wav, signal1 and signal2.wav aren't super interesting, only talking.wav is and I'm not sure of the source. It sounds like garbled German speech, so it could also be from this SDECE transmission, but I've got no way of confirming this.

I think that'd be really cool - I that that it would be awesome to be able to pickup enemy radio, the sound of citizens talking in their apartments or Combine soldiers communicating and the like. A muffled sound file of someone talking points to this being intended too.

Hello.I cannot register into the Half Life beta forum so I write to you in this. i hope this message finds you. Can you tell me where did you guys got the 2001 and 2002 map files? I downloaded the 2003 leak of Half Life 2 and the MEGA pack that is available at the forum. I began searching in the 2003 files to see if anything seems like 2002 old material but no. So to me it seems those maps are fancreated or pulled from a different source.Could you elaborate a bit? Many thanks.

any maps previous to the ones that came with the build come from the WC Mappack, a pack of 1350 uncompiled map files (.vmf) from difierent eras of development, nearly all of them need some kind of fixing and their state varies from almost complete and playable to very unfinished, there are community made mappacks with fixed versions of those maps

I never heard of the fake soundtrack but knew it was a thing, getting to hear the full thing I'm baffled people believed this was legit because none of these tracks mesh together at all in any sensical way. Credit where credit is due though: Airex Reactor was pretty creepy and even though the splices are clear as day, still has a creepiness to it.

Man...we all bought it too back then. We just thought the really weird tracks were placeholders put in by Valve in the event of a hacking. Still; beta was intense with that Orwellian feeling. It'd be nice to see it completely rebuilt; like people have been slowly doing on GMod and other mods for years.

I was that guy who sent these fake songs to Griggs, and still own tha Garrus Vakarian account. Something that caught me offguard for years afterwards, even when I was linking to direct sources and URLs for the actual songs on sites like OCRemix, is how so many valve / beta fans ferociously defended these as authentic or flat out refused to believe that Viktor Antonov somehow didn't create an orchestral composition that appeared in a game many years prior to HL2s development. It takes a special kind of loyalty to a franchise to do that (and perhaps just a touch of musical naivety.) but valve has some pretty dedicated fans to say the least! Some even believed that valve had just simply used community-made songs in their game, as though it were a totally normal thing for them. Biggest regret was including Dj Dains insane remix "That Long Train Ride" which went under the moniker "Path of Borealis", but on the other hand, it seems that it being part of the alpha soundtrack propelled it to fame in the beta community so it kind of 'got out there' more? Also it brought a lot of other songs from random old games and creators (Nathan Wang - Return to Zork, Steve Henefin - Exhumed/Powerslave etc) to a new generation.

@@shyguy85 It was a silly gag, I didn't expect Grigori to take it seriously. I half heartedly sent it to him and said "Here, Gabe Newell sent this to me" or something. He then uploaded to the web and the rest is, as they say, history. I am glad that the world got to hear DJ Dains work, and some of my other favourite tracks though (literally all the songs are from favourite albums/collections, ranging from OCRemix songs for DOOM, to music for classic games like Steve Henifins Exhumed/Powerslave ost, and Nathan Wangs orchestral collection for Return to Zork) etc I just hope more than anything that DJ Dain got the credit he deserved in the end. His Long Train Ride remix was really quite special.

It's funny too because outside of Airex Reactor there are like a dozen different tracks that were cut from the retail game still in the game files that would have actually been enough to make a "beta soundtrack" for beta based mods yet this dumb shit is played instead. For the most part soundtracks are usually one of the last things composed in the development of video games and cinema (shows and movies) so it's unlikely that the OST for HL2 even started development until about late 2002 since outside of some test scenarios and a small handful of scenes there's no music in any of the leaked maps from 2001-early 2003. Maybe some ambient sounds in the environment playing, but hardly anything that could be called music. Just complete silence usually.
