Whitey swam after floating duckies, chased a 1000 balls, and traveled a 1000 miles with me. The vet told me he had no cartiledge left but was too good-natured to complain about the pain. He's gone, but he sent me a stray border collie to walk me now.

Thanks for letting me yammer, and I love your walking paths. @alzpodcast I learned a study was done on dogs brain functions. Human relationships were as rewarding as.. let's say, a treat... showing that having a relationship is as important to them as "breathing, sleeping, eating,.. being alive" Ps- I didn't fret a bit. She shows the love she receives. Some fear to open their hearts again.. and forget that their love is worth sending to another creature. Of any sort.. really.
@alzpodcast20 күн бұрын
@@brittneyc.brookes1455 Interesting study. She proved recently, that I am very important to her. Our neighborhood dog walker, who loves Luna to death, was at the dog park. I had a meeting to get to so she said she'd bring Luna home later. Luna freaked out, thinking she got left behind, even though she knew she was with her dog walker friend. Luna swam across the pond (half a football field) ran up the slope to the parking lot before dog walkers friend caught up to her. Everyone was so worried about her, but dog walker friend had treats, so all was well. Glad to know she loves me enough not to want to get left behind. Truth be told she probably wanted me to stay so she could continue fishing in the pond!

My grandma was recently diagnosed after the death of my mother. She forgets that my mum is dead and thinks I'm her since I look like her. I can't visit her alone because it'a genuinely too much for me. My aunt reminded her of my mum's death once and it devastated her. Because she didn't remember being at the hospital with us the day mum died and couldn't remember the wake or funeral, she thought we'd kept it from her.
@alzpodcast4 ай бұрын
@@bellamee2775 I'm so sorry about your Mom. What you're experiencing with your grandma is very common. She likely thinks you're your Mom because her mind is at a time when your Mom was your current age. I know it's tough. Maybe if you visit & she thinks you're Mom, you can learn stories about her. This disease is a monster. I wish ninjas better advice.

Also not being appreciated. As a professional Caregiver. Agencies I have worked for and family members of the patients, acts like it’s your fault that their health is failing. They’re never satisfied. A thank you goes a long way or a stipend of some kind after you take care of their loved one who passes.

Our entire culture around aging and dying is terrible. Your experience proves that. I took care of my Mom and too many professionals (doctors especially) treated me like I was her driver, not her advocate or her daughter. I'm sorry you've had such negative experiences from families. I always tried to be as big a help as I could to everyone involved with Moms care.

My Mom died at barely 77. She was very impaired for years before that. At least 10. It's called early-onset Alzheimers. Our brains are designed to last longer than our early 60s. We do have slowing of brain processing as we age, but not in the way she ended up. She had memory issues from her early 50s. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want people to think you were worthless in your 60s.
