As a qualified building surveyor, I thought I'd mention that your videos are very helpful and well presented. Good for professionals and DIY.

The part where he said that the perforations (or frogs as they are known) is to strengthen the bond between the bricks is absolute bullshit. They are there because so they can make more bricks out of the material they quarry and they make them lighter so more can be transported at once. They weaken the overall structure by leaving pockets of air within the wall.

Engineering bricks from what I have researched were used to build ovens in the 19th century, but the other day at my local builders merchant I asked if they can be used and the the answer was no, that I should get fire bricks. What I am wondering is before fire bricks we used Engineering bricks to build ovens, has the mix that goes into these bricks changed over the years, hence not being able too use them? or is it simple the builders merchant does not know what he is talking about.

so the bricks are considered to be less attractive. eplain please why. they are stronger than regular bricks and about 35% of the price. can I use them to build a double skin garage where 4800 bricks will cost me £1440 as oppose to regular bricks £4174 ? if not, why not?

Michael wheels-and-bricks . There is no reason why you can't use the Class B Engineering bricks on your project. The minus to this would be the finished appearance! Think industrial substation . Also class B says it all ( Not class A) you may get slight changes of colour within the various packs and also you may get slightly different lengths which will affect the ( perps / vertical joints) also looking at the holes within the bricks you would use a good bit of sand and cement against a facing brick with a typical frog indent. Hope this helps.
