Love how well you handle the fish. Great job. I watch too many You Tubers just through the fish back in the water, no gentle release nor an attempt to give the fish a chance to recover before release. Well done.

I wish I could find those chatterbaits. I can find the classic ones for bass. And Bass Pro has a bunch of Z Man stuff but not those. I got a few of the regular ones, I didn't have any luck with them yet. Maybe I'll take off the skirt and just put a regular tail on the hook. Or a Gulp tail.
@Fishjamlaugh
@Fishjamlaugh 10 ай бұрын
Yeah they can be tough to come by if you're not in the right region. I have had good luck at the Bass Pro Shops along the gulf coast here (Spanish Fort, AL and Destin, FL), but you have to get them online otherwise. Bass Pro has them in their online store.

@@Fishjamlaugh I found 2 kinds of chatterbaits for the saltwater. 1 came with a tail, the others were just bladed jig heads, 2 in a box. I caught some redfish with 1 already.

That looks like some fun fishing! Subscribed! What time of year was that? I’m gonna be in Miramar/Destin in 2 weeks, which I know is 50 miles from you, but I’d appreciate any knowledge you have on surf fishing during this hot but transitional time of year. Seems pomps might be not as prevalent, but Spanish could be good, and Reds, Bonito and maybe Jacks, if you can get out beyond the second bar. I think there’s something to be said for fishing just before a storm. I’ve also had great fishing just after storms as well, maybe because the water’s been churned, and cooled by the rain. Gonna check out some more of your vids. Good stuff, bro! 🤙

I'm pretty sure this video was recorded in late September. And it sounds like you know what to expect from surf fishing in the area as well. Spanish, jacks, pomps, reds, bonita, whiting, you never know what's gonna be coming through. I haven't done much fishing this year, but I think people are doing well in the surf. Fishing in the intracoastal waterway system can be a challenge from shore right now because the water temperature in our bay/sound system is massively hot. Water temp at the Port of Pensacola in Pensacola Bay is currently 90 degrees. Good luck fishing while you're in Destin!

A little late to the channel and your music …I guess I am the grasshole! I’d like to see you play live, got any panhandle dates anytime soon in support of the new album? And hey, what kind of fishing setup do you use? Looks like a Penn Battle? 7’ or 7’6” rod? That rod looks slick! Thanks for a great time!
@Fishjamlaugh
@Fishjamlaugh 10 ай бұрын
My apologies for the delay in getting back to ya! And at the moment, I have no dates set because I have an EP in the works and I want to try to get it out this fall. For this video, I have a 7'6" rod with a 2500 series Penn Battle II. Really like having that thing when walking the beach. I think it makes a big difference in casting that weight of lure and it really helps when the wind isn't being friendly.

How long of a leader are you using?
@Fishjamlaugh
@Fishjamlaugh 10 ай бұрын
I'm typically always using at least 15 to 18 inches of leader. 15 or 20 lb fluorocarbon is the type of leader I use out on the flats.

@Fishjamlaugh
@Fishjamlaugh 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you dig the channel! I’m not doing any kind of guiding at the moment. Music stuff is getting most of my time this year. I think there are probably some good fly fishing guides in this area that can take you to spots and help with strategies. Keep in mind that this many fish in one trip is very out of the ordinary. Early mornings are good, and if you can’t go early, try to make sure that the tide is at least halfway in. It’s not that fish can’t be caught on the flats during low tide, but lots of times those low lows knock everything off the flat to deeper water. 😎

Awesome Video! I'm heading down to pensacola soon to try some inshore fishing. Would/could you recommend butcherpen cove for flounder? Or really any inshore gulf breeze/pensacola areas? I live in the Midwest so I'm not very familiar with the area 😅. Thanks! Just subscribed 👍
@Fishjamlaugh
@Fishjamlaugh 2 жыл бұрын
As much as I fish in this area, I've never fished Butcherpen Cove myself, so I can't say for sure. From the looks of the map, I don't see any grass around there so I wouldn't know where to even start. Whenever I catch flounder in spring and summer, it's typically in 1-4 feet of water on grass flats. Sometimes they're in the grass, sometimes they sit just outside the edges of the grass beds. These grassy areas I'm talking about are all along the north side of the long stretch of island that is Pensacola Beach/Navarre Beach. No boat necessary. Wade fishing or shore fishing will get you close enough. Many flounder are caught within a few feet of shoreline. Keep in mind that you can also get them from piers and bridges with bottom rigs. In this video, I was near the entrance to Ft. Pickens.

Early mornings or late in afternoon, and make sure to fish higher part of the tide cycle. A very low tide can push everything, baitfish included, off of the flat into deeper water.
