You say that the battery is behind the plate, but I believe it is a passive pickup.

I've got the CKP-70. Looks just like yours and has a strap button, which I haven't used. It has a stronger sound than my Ohana tenor and is excellent for finger picking. I think the body is a concert, though the neck is soprano.

Don’t know if I ihave to adjust my understanding or if uke players are a different breed but in 50 years of guitar playing I’ve never heard anyone refer to the first second third and fourth strings on a guitar as the bottom strings. Musical instruments are about sound. To me, D,G,B,E strings on a guitar have always been the top strings because of their pitch not their height sbove floor level. I guess it doesn’t matter much but it does strike me as weird.

I make ukuleles. My first a pineapple tenor. The cavity was a bit too large and it tended to be a bit boomy at the low end. I used unwound low g tenor strings. I just tuned it down to baritone (DGBE) with the same tenor strings and it sounds very good. The string tension is ok and not too floppy. What fun!

I tried to learn classical guitar last year - my first attempt at a stringed instrument. I did not make much progress, and I was not enjoying it. A full sized classical guitar is not comfortable (compared to a uke), and the 2 inch nut width was a real stretch! I found the perfect instrument in the baritone uke. I can play it comfortably in a relaxed position, and the 1.5" nut width is perfect. I wish I had known about the baritone uke earlier. In the past 3 weeks or so, I made 10X more progress on the uke than I ever did on the classical guitar.

There are distressed finishes, like Fender, which are rather severe and this non-buffed somewhat open pore finish. It doesn't bother me and it certainly doesn't look like a 70 year old instrument would. I changed the tuners to friction Grovers. My SK-38 is newer and my saddle and nut are bone. They added just a bit of gloss on the newer models too. You're right about the tone. It's my favorite uke.

I figured that as a fellow reviewer, you would be similar to me and watch all the ukulele reviews…Millar has been on the Got A Ukulele page several times over the last years (including this model, I think), but there really hasn’t been an easy way to buy them in the USA (just as I am sure that there are models in the USA that are not readily available elsewhere). I usually see these from World of Ukes…not sure if there are other vendors, though it is good to learn that the Ukulele Site is carrying them.

I own two Millars - an acacia and spruce longneck concert which is beautifully loud and clear, and I use when I go out to play in public, and an all Bolivian Rosewood tenor, which has a lovely rich tone. I tune down to Bb for added richness, and use it for jazz. Great instruments. The Phil Doleman soprano has been a temptation for over a year now.
