i beat this game when i was 8 years old, not knowing a single word of english and with no internet to help me out. I have no ideá how i did it beacuse when i replayed it in my 20s, i had to look things up. like how you get that flute, and that glass bottle you have to throw into the water. I will be one of the biggest mysteries of my life. But this game will forever be the best game a played in my childhood. The music alone of this game brings up so many childhood memories :)

I bought this game for the GBA. I thought it was a modern game at the time and thought, "why does the game look so old." After playing it, it became one of my favorite Zelda games

for me it sets the standard of what i expect in a zelda game others might have better story or graphics but lttp is the definitive zelda game because it does everything the series requires to be zelda. ocarina set the 3d standard of how a zelda game should play but link to the past defined the series. its the reason why i call breath of the wild a glorified tech demo and the reason why i see skyward sword as a gimmick game on par with links crossbow training they just dont match the sheer level of nobody to nightmare you get in link to the past and that to me is the essence of zelda

Because : - Items and weapon durabilities. - 3 plus 8 and 1 final dungeons. And atmosphere. - Music is Zelda. - No Woke. No DLC. No new modern era - Intelligent design and deep dungeon. Need elemental cave to return. - 2d. - Two World connected.

This game is the best in the series. It was the first one i played and it made me want to play every other game in the series. And it has been a life long love. The legend of zelda is one of the greatest stories ever told. And this game is what really started it all.

The game was a real life adventure….I remember my brother and I were stuck on how to get to the final light world dungeon for the longest time. He then found a battered and beat up strategy guide book from the library. Not a prima guide but a legit ancient looking book. Almost like finding that was part of completing the game for us

Honestly it was just a ground breaking game. At a time when well flushed out stories were hard to pull off in video games on consoles.

I always hated how in Zelda games you are supposed to somehow figure out everything without the slightest hints, and most of the time the solution is extremely outlandish. You’re just supposed to guess you have to go back somewhere to talk to someone before you can continue the story or you’re supposed to shoot some rock or statue to open something in the other room or you need to magically come up with the idea that you need to resurect a dead rooster just so you can go over a broken bridge somewhere on the other side of the map. These games feel like they’re made just to drag out beating them as much as possible.

A Link to the Past was my first experience with LOZ. It's my third favorite game in the series. Was second for the longest, until Breath of the Wild released. Ocarina of Time is my favorite in the series, followed by BotW, with LTTP and WindWaker tied for 3rd for me.

A Link to the Past and Super Mario World are masterpieces. They’re so good that they can be played today without the need for nostalgia. I was an early teen when they were released. Though there were a lot of games that I grew up with and enjoyed, these two games were “ahead of their time.” 99% of 8bit and 16bit era games are too dated to enjoy, but I’ve replayed these two games start to total completion three times since they’ve been available on Switch. They’re that good.

Because its still better than most of the games out today. Games today simply take the last first person shooter, add new skins so it's aliens instead of humans. And sell it as a new product. Zelda games always have a different feel from the last zelda game yet bring up the same familiar emotions. Zelda series is the best there is. Except I didn't like Zelda 2. I was like....I already played rambo.

the ice palace is much better when you go find the mad batter first and have the ether medalion. it makes clearing rooms with many monsters a lot easier and using it also causes a high drop chance for magic jars to refill your magic

This is a great video with ugly emu footage. It's hard to capture a 16 bit crt pixel art in this days but believe me if you have the chance to emulate that with a retroting a framemeister you'll be truly amazed.

I do love this game, it is one of the first in the series that I played and beat, but I think Link's Awakening has the better story in my opinion, narrowly beating this one, and Ocarina of Time has more nostalgic and happy memories for me.

Most Zelda games after this era are extremely poorly designed. The N64 games are carried by the most egregious case of "Rose Tinted Glasses" ever. The game is fluid. The combat simple, but impactful. Boss designs are mostly good. The music and ambiance are top notch, especially for their time. Dungeon design is top notch and puzzles actually feel intuitive to solve and a few of them actually make you think deeper than "Statue go on switch." You get those "light bulb" moments when you finally figure out a puzzle that's stumping you. Everything oozes good game feel. The game has the least amount of ridiculous progression holdups of possibly any Zelda title. The only instances I can think of that are kind of weird would be: - Finding the book of Mudora. As a counter-argument you are "locked" into a smaller portion of the world map by the time you need it so if you've made little effort to explore you likely know of its existence. The game also does give you a hint. - Progressing to Dark world Kakariko village. An arrow drawn on the ground with grass is kind of weird. As far as I remember no hint is given here. - Obtaining the ice rod. Its not optional, yet you have to actively seek it out. It feels like it is placed as if it is an optional item. To counter-argue again - I suppose Sahasrahla does hint at its existence. OoT, in comparison: Terrible combat. 99% of the fights in the game are resolved in the same way - Z-target, block, which gives you invincibility, strike. Enemies sometimes take no damage for zero reason - your sword just bounces off of them as if you're hitting a rock. Music sounds like shit, much thanks to the lack of a proper sound chip on the N64. Bad dungeon design, especially the Water Temple. "Puzzles" almost never feel intuitive to solve. Solving the dungeons feels more like a job. Movement and controls are extremely clunky - further exacerbated by the abomination that is the N64 controller. Tons of "Jump Scare" moments as a middle finger to the player. The game is literally designed around using the garbage camera to punish the player. Everything in the game is designed to waste your time. From the poorly thought out dungeon puzzles to the combat. The way you obtain required key items makes ZERO sense. Spend a decade trying to bomb a goron that is rolling around to get the flame tunic? Or spend 4 years hunting down golden spiders so you can get the bigger wallet, which may not even be possible at this point in the game. Shoot the sun to get the silver arrows? What???? Zero respect for the player. 3D Zelda games pretty much undid everything that 2D Zelda games were working towards.

This is exactly the way I feel about OoT and Majora's Mask! My first entries into Zelda were 2D, Link's Awakening and LTTP to be exact, only to be followed my Oracle of Ages, Seasons, and Minish Cap! I didn't grow up with an N64, but rather, all the handheld devices. It wasn't until BOTW that I fell in love with 3D Zelda, I was so familiar with Hyrule and it's lore that I went on to put thousands of hours into the game!

I absolutely loved this game as a kid, I had a Sega megadrive, mastersystem, atari 2600 and C64 in my house growing up, but it wasn't until I played this game at a friends house that I really got in to gaming, begged my dad for a SNES after that day and finally got one. I spent hours on my first playthrough, like searching everywhere, and it took me months to actually complete it. It captured my imagination like no other game has since. It's crazy though, i recently replayed it and finished it 100% in two days, couldn't believe it after how long it took me as a kid lol

buying a game in the 90s and playing it is a world apart from getting an emulator and a ROM in 2023, competing with streaming, internet, phone, porno etc and pushing past the primitive UI and graphics. It's HARD to get into old games no matter how good they are. But damn at the time, it was exciting. I remember being stuck on this game with a friend and actually calling the helpline.

I truly appreciate all the classics and super Mario is always been my favorite iconically but Zelda is the only game I can truly go back, play and enjoy. The variety of things to do along the music and feel of a ancient world full of magic just makes it enjoyable.

The Original Legend of Zelda was was one of the First video games I ever played, and to me it is very nostalgic. The graphics aren't as polished as a link to the past (which i also grew up with) but the simple sprites are mythical, have become iconic and it was all we had at the time. It was the OG open world game and it was Legendary even down to the actual game cartrige with it's golden shine. You had to own it to fully understand the mood it set, but you should still try it on modern systems. In my opinion, one isn't a Zelda fan if you haven't played the original, and it shouldn't be writen off. A link to the past too.
