Hi Kenny, I have been given a SX 60 HS as a gift. How do I set it to monochrome photography please?
@kenny75photography2Ай бұрын
Hi, from what I can see online, you rotate the camera dial to creative filters mode, which is the mode with the two overlapping circles icon. From there hit the func set button and rotate through the options using the left right buttons and you will see monochrome in there.

I own both SX40 and SX60 I didn't want the SX50 or SX70 for various reasons. But, the SX40 (sharp images) has features the SX60 doesn't for example. While shooting a video, you can take a picture of a particular scene without interrupting the video recording, which I found to be a scarce feature in modern cameras unless you pay hundreds or thousands of pounds for a camera. However, the SX60 has a longer zoom range and a 3.1 mm jack for external mic. The SX40 doesn't have this feature, I managed however to hack into the camera and install a 3.1 mm jack and it works, it's easy to install but, you will need truckloads of patience. The image quality of these Powershot cameras is amazing. From SX30 to SX70 all have great image quality. The SX60-70 both have Wi-Fi which makes it easier to download your photos to your smartphone and to even take pictures remotely. For the SX50 and earlier models you will need to use an Eye-fi SD card, (if you can find one) they are way too expensive as well. Overall, they are amazing cameras, you can grab a second-hand one I promise you, and you will not regret it, the image quality outperforms any new smartphone. I hope this helps.

What you didn’t like about the Sx50 HS? I thinking about buying either an Sx40, SX50 or SX60. What is a fair price for these cameras and are they reliable? Do they have image stabilization? I’m looking for a bridge camera for birding. I have a Fuji F700, but it’s only a 10x zoom. Cheers!

I recently got into birding and several members of a group I am in on Facebook love the SX50 that they have, so I bought one. I'd watched videos of the awesome zoom of the camera and now that I have it I am wondering if there is something wrong with mine. Standard digital zoom and the 2x setting are no different. I do notice a little difference from shutting the digital zoom off from having it on. Any thoughts? Also I'm not super impressed with the image quality I have been getting. That may be because I have not throttled back the ISO and it is introducing a lot of noise. I changed that earlier today. Anyway, I hope you can shed some light on the tele-converter issue, does it actually make a difference in shooting stills? Thanks
@kenny75photography2 Жыл бұрын
I've not used the digital zoom on mine to be honest as the range it has is plenty for my needs. As for the ISO, I usually put it no higher than 200 because the small sensor introduces more noise at higher sensitivities. I used it at ISO 400 max, which was still fairly clean, but some noise was visible.

Nice photos! I have Sky-Watcher ST80 as well, it is great telescope for its price. I use it with my Canon 600D and the shots are quite good, however the precise focusing was challenging at first. I highly recommend you to try focusing your setup with the help of Bachtinov mask. This simple piece really gets focusing on the next level. The pictures will be nice and sharp! It is also needed to be mentioned that this telescope suffers from some level of chromatic abberation, especially if you take long exposures with some kind of star tracker. I found that using such filters as Baader Fringe Killer or Baader Contrast Booster + post processing in Photoshop can eliminate almost all of it, so I recommend this as well) Wish you good luck and clear skies!

I actually have an issue with the scope just now as the focus tube is a bit loose and i think its from the added weight of the camera and extension tubes. Do you know how it could be tightened or fixed? Bit concerned about potentially damaging the tube.
@andriidovbush6903 Жыл бұрын
@@kenny75photography2 There is a screw on top of the focuser, used for "locking" the focuser. It also tightens up the tube a bit, so it can be useful. If this doesn't help, there are also two small black hex screws on the one line with that "locking" screw. They are used for adjusting focuser tightness, so you can try to play with them a bit. That should help:)

I have this camera as well as a Sony A7III and I still love the GX80 and use it whenever I'm going on hikes or don't want to bother with the weight of the A7 and its full frame lenses. Tbh the quality of the buttons and the body and the LCD screen are better than the A7III which is funny to me 😅 I recently got to try the Lumix GH5 for a couple of days and its ergonomics and build quality are way better than the Sony. Panasonic really know how to build a camera. Shame their cameras don't get as much love. And shame they don't use phase detect autofocus, though that's only an issue for video which I don't care for.
@kenny75photography22 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ed. Yeah i like the GX80 myself although I do admit I don't use it that much myself in comparison to my E-M1 Mk ii for photos. Panasonic always seem to stay away from phase detect af in favour of their contrast based af which I do see has its problems but their single af speeds are some of the fastest out there, which I always liked about their cameras. Wouldn't mind trying a G90 also, so might consider one of them in future.

I like this lens. The optical quality is excellent. The construction and small size are very much appreciated. The one annoyance is the aperture rotation direction is backwards from my other lenses. You mentioned some focusing difficulties? I'll share the process I've been using a long time, which works reliably for me. * Enable low powered focus peaking. This highlights then only image sections that are truly sharp. * Select monochrome rendering for the panel and LCD. This guarantees that the focus peaking indicators are always visible regardless of image color. * I focus with the aperture stopped down to the desired shooting aperture; specifically, I do not focus wide open then adjust aperture later. I want to know exactly what the depth-of-field is for the candidate exposure. The beauty of mirrorless is that the EVF/panel presents exactly what the sensor is seeing, without proxying over another light path. The EVF/panel compensates with gain so that the framing is always sufficiently bright to compose by. It's great. I imagine someone like Weegee, the originator of "f8 and be there", probably would have given his first born for a lens like this paired to one of the smaller, RF style MFT body.
@RobertLeeAtYT2 жыл бұрын
Oh hey, this is the camera I’ve been carrying around for years now. It’s usually mated to the Panasonic 20mm f1.8. More recently I’ve been rather enamored with the Laowa 7.5 f2. This superwide and the GX80 is a perfect match. Highly recommended.
@kenny75photography22 жыл бұрын
Hi, Robert. Yes i fancy getting the Laowa 7.5 at some point too although maybe a bit pricey so might try a 2nd hand one. I have Laowa 17mm f1.8 which is great and did a video on that also.

@@kenny75photography2 I have the Laowa 17mm f1.8 as well. That was an impulse buy. As far as utility, it's frankly too close to the Panny 20mm in focal length; however, I just couldn't resist the look and feel of the lens. I'll check out your review on this lens. You know, I wish Panasonic, Oly, or anybody else would focus on this segment of the MFT market. Really emphasis MFT core strength for high quality images from the smallest and lightest possible gear. I'd snap up a modernized GM1, one with IBIS in a heart beat and without consideration for price. Instead they're pushing bigger and bigger pro bodies in which MFT fundamentally can't really compete.
@martingreenberg8702 жыл бұрын
The Olympus EM1 is a flagship camera. So is the G9. I have the G9 and GX85. These bodies are a good counterpoint to each other. I LOVE my GX85. Very small and light. Have the Pany-Leica 15 permanently on this body. As you mentioned, the D monochrome is vey contrasty and crushes the blacks the way I like it. Once you have used IBIS it is hard to go back. I like the video output for short clips. Too bad there is no audio in Jack. This body has only 16MP but that is enough. I have heard some people have gotten rid of the very powerful and popular GR III in favor of this body. Interesting. This body has been superseded by the GX9 so the price has fallen dramatically. Never handled the GX9 but I suspect the upgrade isn’t dramatic. Not much difference between 16 and 20MP. Panasonic has had a sale with the GX85 and two zooms for $499. What a bargain.i Sometimes good enough is good enough Mask On Nurse Marty
