In Nov of 1970 I had just joined the military about a week prior to that.. So while I was getting yelled at pretty regular, your grandpa was working on his 54... If you have access to any rust converter, i think I would touch up a few places, especially the floors on the inside of the truck.. Enjoyed the video, hope everything goes well... Take care and God Bless....

I sure hope that at some point in the future, you go back and get that other truck. 5 window cab, radio, heater, chrome grille and bumper. And all the extra sheet metal in the back. I'd love to have that one. Not saying this one isn't great though. I love these old GM trucks. There must have been millions of them sold because they sure are plentiful. To find one as rust-free as yours is a God-send.

Great video…great truck…great work done on it. Quick question….were there any equalizer/spreader bars on the rear for the emergency brake…or is there a transmission brake on it? Can’t wait for the next step…thanks…Mac
@28pont25 күн бұрын
@@macmac8249 it is not a trans brake. It is a standard cable system to the rear wheels.
@macmac824925 күн бұрын
@ Yes…upon closer inspection I saw the parking brake lever (the one the cable attaches to) but I didn’t see the equalizer/spreader/parking brake link that goes between the rear brake shoes. This link ensures that both shoes are in contact with the inner surface of the brake drum at the same time and with the same pressure. The transmission brakes were for larger (1 ton and up) trucks.

@28pont28 күн бұрын
Yes, there are a number of options. I wanted slight grey tint and I'm happy with what I got. I hope to work on getting some of it installed this winter. I got it from autocity1958 on eBay. Great price and packed well so there was no damage.
@colinl901828 күн бұрын
Well that was an interesting video. Nice to see the whole family getting in and helping out. Look forward to part two on the old truck. That '48 truck down in the canyon shed would make a good parts truck. Would the glass out of it fit yours?

What an awesome truck! I love that you're saving some family history. This is my favorite year of Chevrolet trucks. I have a '54 2-ton that my grandfather bought new. I grew up driving that truck on the farm, and it's still in great shape. It's always been kept inside when not in use. I recently found a '54 5-window pickup cab that I'll be rebuilding this year. I'm still on the lookout for a 1/2-ton frame to put it on. I'll be following this build. I liked and subscribed.

I want you to know I appreciate this video! I recently was able to acquire my great grandpas 1954 3100. I was searching videos on this topic and that’s how I found yours. Ironically, we live in Warner, Oklahoma and you likely drive right by me on your way home to Virginia. Matter of fact, I have eaten at that Brahms many times and that particular one makes the best breakfast burritos, lol. I plan to start my similar story soon and I’m gonna subscribe to your channel and keep you in the loop. I may need to reach out to you with questions. Thanks again!
