Well, research now says Finland has the highest happiness quota and the reason they say is because of contentment with what they have. Then Denmark Iceland Sweden Israel Netherlands Norway Luxembourg Switzerland Australia India is currently 126. So something has changed maybe post internet?. Probably now people are more discontent with what they don't have. If you don't know you're missing anything you accept what you have.

Well, i remember that 'what is Enlightenment' article Roger is referring to because i used to be in that community before meeting Ramesh in 96. If i remember right it was called "the euphoric nihilism of Ramesh Balsekar" a terribly derogatory title and article. I actually knew the guy who wrote it.... i had a 'glimpse' prior to joining that community and thought the disciplined lifestyle and meditation for hours every day would help stabilize this glimpse (an old trap haha).. but it all unraveled when i had conflict with Cohen over a few things primarily the idea of personal doership, because i came to the understanding that its really a phantom. Then i had the opportunity to visit Ramesh and had a wonderful meeting with him for which i will always be grateful for that. At that time there was just an absolute trust and receptivity as well as complete acceptance of the teaching. I had a rather effusive letter published in Ramesh's book Your Head in the Tigers Mouth on this and Ramesh wrote back how happy he was that the teaching has been recieved so well in my case. Well, because it was so obvious and congruent with my experience there was no resistance.

Its funny regarding the discussion with Roger, when i met Ramesh in 96 the teaching was more in the way Roger was referring to. But when I met Ramesh there was already this realisation that there is only consciousness and the ego is a phantom without doership and I told him my experience and he said "this is the natural state, what Ramana called the i- i (no me in between)" So the understanding that there is no individual doer came about through realisation of my natural state., therefore there is no real individual me to do... So not by examination of the sense of doership per se (personal investigation and so on), so i can't vouch for that, but others might be able to. On Roger challenging the way Ramesh teaches.. i think its not without merit, but it's common that once the me is seen to be a phantom, that the tendency to negate the appearance of a me as non existent continues for a while. Maturity is being comfortable with the appearance of the me, because who cares exactly.. the ego certainly continues.. it's not continuous.. it disappears in deep sleep every night along with the intellect, but in order for interhuman relations to happen it is necessary, so Ramesh is right there. And it is the source that is animating all the egos, what else. The other thing which Ramesh hints at and Roger doesn't seem to understand at this point, is that fundamental to advaita vedanta is that.. of course the Self is already the case, already full, free and happiness itself, but the seeming obscuration to that is ignorance and that is in the intellect isn't it.. so the intellect has to be addressed with concepts (knowledge)., to remove the ignorance. Then you can let go of concepts too, because Roger is right.. its ultimately non conceptuality. But you can't just tell the person "forget concepts, you are already the happiness you seek". And just because there is Self Realisation it doesn't mean that will be particularly helpful to anyone else, unless there is some kind of methodology that can be conveyed. Even Ramana reverted to various vadas of vedantic teachings didn't he, he wasn't just always sitting in silence or recommending silence. The other thing Ramesh says happiness is not in the flow of life and Roger is saying it can't be divorced from the flow of life. In my view and its the view of Vidyaranya in Panchadasi is that the happiness in not in the object.. the object doesn't give you happiness.. but the happiness you derive from an object is certainly your own happiness.. its just that in ignorance it's associated with an object and this is the mechanism of desire. I'll be happy when so and so.. it means I can't be happy now, its what is obscuring the present happiness isn't it, because if happiness was unassociated with any particular object, then what's to stop it being ever present since it's our true nature.. nothing obviously. So Vidyaranya has that image of a dog and the dog has this old dry bone, but when he chews on it his gums bleed.. and he thinks "what a tasty bone"..

I went to a nadi in Tamil Nadu because a friend was very keen on going, this was in 2002 and id only heard about it through Ramesh back in the 90s and he said only trust the ones with dates and names.. and this had all the names correct.. my name, parents names, wifes name and so on. It also had dob! At a certain point they called me over and they were translating the dob from from old tamil calendar and asking me is this your name in English calendar and yes.. 100% correct..

It was in a town called vauteshwaran coil I believe and had Agasthiya Kousika in the name but not sure exactly the rest. But if you go by Ramesh's rule of thumb you would probably be OK. . They must have all kinds of names and 100% correct sometimes dates and you must not have to give them any details yourself and so on. He explicitly warned against some place in Bangalore that doesn't do that and actually I visited that place too with this friend and it seemed bogus.. forget the name.

The 'movie' is NOT already made in it's final version. There is a raw script only. And it is no movie, it's a lifely play. The outcome of the future probapility depends on the decision of the people and how they interact with each other. Ramesh is a funny teacher and brings some wisdom. I'd like to listen to the old recordings. Thanks for that. But I wouldn't recommend his teachings for reference view.

There is no watcher, maker or creator. The unmanifest is not God; it is pure consciousness according to the Vedanta teachings. This maker, watcher etc., appear only in the manifest (maya) due to the creations within the human mind. Ramesh confuses people sometimes. There is no Leela (play) or destiny; they are only an illusion of the mind in maya. Pure Consciousness has nothing to do with play or destiny because it is contentless. Action and intent (karma) is something one does every moment of the day. For some actions, we expect perfect results and for some, we don't even think about it. Misery comes when we expect something for actions because such expectations are constructed in the brain by mapping previous memories (preconditioning; false knowledge) ......it always leads to false (unrealistic) expectations because it is predicated on false knowledge. Expectation (imagination) is based on memories that lead to thoughts. We are disappointed when our imaginations prove to be wrong. Therefore, our happiness is based on imaginations (how silly it sounds when you think of it).

In a pure sense, Enlightenment is Consciousness without any contents (that is also known as Brahman). Such a state cannot be achieved because one has to delete all memories and preconditioning. In a pure Conscious state, your body is alive with chemical reactions going on (this is just BEING or pure awareness). In this state, you cannot relate to anything (no experience, no identification, no judgement etc) in this world because there is no content in consciousness. Some people call it Samadhi because you are dead from the perspective of human definition. Once you reach such a state, one cannot come back to the original state in which there was memory and preconditioning. Therefore, pure enlightenment means the end of your life because life involves bodily movement and also movement of thoughts in the mind.

People certainly come back from nirvakalpa samadhi, but they will not come back from mahasamadhi. Plenty of well known cases of absorption in pure consciousness, they are known because people came back. Obviously, because how would you know of samadhi or total absorption as pure consciousness if the only cases that occurred no one came back to speak of it 😂 For example after Ramana's 'death experience' he went to arunachala and actually had prolonged samadhi, they had to break him out of it to feed him and then he'd go back.. this happened for some time. Ramakrishna apparently went into samadhi after Totapuri's instruction and Totapuri was amazed that he attained something so quickly that took him decades.. so Totapuri also attained nirvakalpa samadhi. Ramakrishna reports having nirvakalpa fairly regularly after that for the rest of his life. There are apparently four categories of nirvakalpa samadhi that yogis talk about. In the first the yogi can somehow break out of it via effort. In the next one may be absorbed in it for hours or even days but perceptions return effortlessly. In the third one comes out of it only if others shake one out of it.. in the 4th you can't even be shaken out of it. Personally I've experienced the first two, but not the third and obviously not the 4th haha I don't know if nirvakalpa samadhi is Enlightenment per se, but shankara does say that nirvakalpa samadhi does give one absolute certainty in the independence of the Self from phenomenal perceptions, sensations and so on. Which is true. Ramakrishna also said that for advaita vedanta training nirvakalpa samadhi completes it. This is probably because of how doubtless one becomes in the reality of oneself as unborn, deathless and lacking nothing and so on. Advaita Vedanta has an interesting relationship to yoga. its yoga that is primarily concerned with meditation practice, samadhi and so on. Advaita Vedanta emphasizes knowledge, but includes upansana (yogic practice), so experience you might have through yoga, but how you understand it is what Advaita Vedanta is concerned with. If you take yoga seriously, that you must eliminate all phenomena, all chitta... then.. you will always be attempting that.. but advaita says even as you return from nirvakalpa samadhi, nothing has fundamentally changed, there is consciousness without objects in nirvakalpa and now there is consciousness with seeming objects, its still only one without a second. Ramesh used to talk about Consciousness at rest and consciousness in action. He said that when there is something to witness there is witnessing (consciousness in action), then when there is nothing to witness there is the non witnessing state (consciousness at rest) He talked about like an automatic transmission, alternating by itself.. but its all consciousness.. whether at rest or in action, that's the point. So he certainly talked about it early on.

@@texastexas4541 language is such. How else is one going to say it exactly? By the way samadhi although there is no experiencer or experienced (because there is no otherness at all...) still its something that when perceptions return and there are apparent 'others' it has to be communicated somehow, obviously it's insufficient and that's why most don't bother with words. Listen to Ramakrishna's disciples talk.. this senior disciple experienced nirvakalpa samadhi three times, Ramakrishna experienced it more. Vivekananda had nirvakalpa samadhi then ramakrishna said no more still end of life because you have work to do and so on. Thats how they talk. Are we to assume Ramakrishna or Vivekananda or Totapuri or whoever else never had nirvakalpa because they talked about it? Even Nisergadatta had nirvakalpa samadhi and talked about it actually (not so widely known fact). Ramana talked about it.. and others talked about that period in his life. He made the distinction between nirvakalpa samadhi and sahaja samadhi didn't he.. thats fundamental to what he said. He even said the issue with nirvakalpa samadhi is its a particular experience wherein the mind is temporarily absent.. (so really a non experience) but he said sahaja is when the peace of nirvakalpa is present all the time, even while perceptions are present. Thats typical of Vedantas criticism of the yogic model actually, because for yoga and samkya nothing higher than nirvakalpa samadhi. Remember buddha attained 'neither perception not non perception' under his second guru, that is nirvakalpa samadhi... and for his guru that was rhe end of the path.. but buddha famously kept going. This is documented fact. But Advaita Vedanta isn't fetishizing nirvakalpa samadhi either. So i think you have to straddle these contradictions or there is no point anyone talking about it at all is there.

By calling Cause karma is confusing for some people. In simple terms, Karma means Action and Intent. Good action (with good intent) is good karma. From Google......The profound verse “Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana” is the most popular shloka from Bhagavad Gita Chapter-2 verse-47. Translated as “You have the right to perform your prescribed karma (action and intent), but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions,” this Bhagavad Gita Sloka encapsulates timeless wisdom and offers profound insights into living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Perform good karma and let go; there will be peace of mind. That is all you can do; you cannot control Nature.

Just can sense the turbulence in Roger’s mind in contrary to silence and witnessing. The master had already simplified everything by explaining “happening”, “bodily reaction” and involvement”. All the time what Roger spoke was basically using different vocabulary coming up with imaginative/creative analogies to describe ordinary thoughts stressing on “I” or “my different concept” but not much substance or new concepts.
