Would it be beneficial to convert this to a center fire rigging? I have an old sawbuck I'm using for practicing right now. I'd love to pack an overnight trip once I get it all fixed up. I like the yoke style breast collar idea a lot. I think I'll be switching to that. Another thing I'd like to get feedback on is, my packs are soft. No box liners. So if you could tell me the best way to tie those down also, if greatly appreciate it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm never disappointed watching packing videos!

What size of rope do you use? What is the length of the rope for the diamond hitch?
@toddjones8883
@toddjones8883 4 жыл бұрын
Joe we use a 1/2 inch nylon 3 strand poly rope. All you need is 30 feet for most single diamonds, but I prefer a 40 ft rope so I can use it for a Double Diamond or Box Hitch if needed. Hope that helps...Happy Packing!!

What kind of loads do box hitches work beat and what kind of loads do diamond hitches work best?
@jones2069
@jones2069 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, I prefer the box hitch for actual hard sided panniers and boxes in combination with a top pack that is perpendicular to the back of the pack animal. I have to admit that with panniers I use the diamond in most cases, especially as it can be thrown with a shorter lash rope. Hope that helps, thank you for the question.

My dad and I went hunting for white tail last year, about a year sgo. We got drawn this year to. We live in Arizona, there's a beautiful elk population here also. We find elk remains all over (mind you there just bone the meat has been removed, It would make me sick if i found an animal with the meat left) my dad shot a decent 3 point, that's 3 on 1 side without the eye guard. I was thrown in and learned alot about tracking that day. We got within 50 yards if him thank god. He was still gasping my dad had to finish him, kinda sad but we found him. We used all parts of him to, left the guts, heart, liver for the already praying crows.

I have a horror story about someone that should never hunt. This story is from her mother I would never hunt with someone like this. She was hunting archery, she had already shot and hit 1 deer that got away b.s. right. Then she shot a female(can't hunt females white tail in Arizona it's not aloud) anyway she shot the deer in the ass not knowing or carding it might be a female, then she brings her home un gutted gross btw. Found a fetus inside, I wish she would have been caught. If I catch wind that she is hunting again I will probably tell someone.

Honestly though, If you could link me to a place where I could find big horn sheep calls, it would be phenomenal. Was by myself descending into the canyon and it was a bit unnerving to hear an animal screaming. Couldn't have been a dog... was too consistent and unique. Being that it's September, a park ranger told me if I was lucky, I'd see a big horned sheep. Found what looked like deer droppings at one point in the canyon near the tail. Would love to know what it was that I heard. Honestly, a feather from a bird also appeared at one point right under my feet and have been trying to figure out what it might have been from (was probably a song bird... but still) Y'all came up first on my search! Would love to know if you had any leads. Help me satisfy my curiosity, please and thank you!

Pack saddles are not good to use for this, you have to have even weight on them or they will make the donkeys backs sore. A well fitting collar would be so much better, and the calves should be closer and the donkey should be calmer when you approach. Not a happy donkey. And you should let them out in a pen with just the two of them until the calf is leading well, also trim those donkey feet! I'd take this down and put a new one up after you take care of and train your donkeys.

+S.Jay good points made. Would enjoy seeing how you do it. If you do post a video let me know. My concern has been for the bars of the saddle digging in as you mentioned. Consequently we don't leave them tied together for long periods. Always looking better way. Thank you.

We don't have a big enough donkey nor any show calves right now so I have no way of making a video. I will say do you keep your donkeys out with the calves? If they doesn't interact with them, stays as far away from them as possible, and/or runs away from them when they get close, you need to get different donkeys. I would get these donkeys backs chiropracted, I'm sure they are out of place terribly from using the pack saddles. Here is what would be a good thing to buy if you want to keep using donkeys without hurting them like the pack saddle does: www.sullivansupply.com/cart/ia/p-622-calf-breaking-donkey-collar.aspx

You are letting your whole cattle operation down but not trimming your poor donkeys feet. Its working so hard for, you. Donkeys feet need to get trimmed to just like horses on the ranch.

Great video. As it would happen, somebody linked to this video this morning in a Reddit thread about donkeys, where someone mentioned using them to break cattle to lead. Not something I would ever have thought about in my life, which makes it all the more fascinating to people like myself who were not raised around livestock. Question: can you tell me what kind of knot is being tied at 1:27?

I thought it was the one the guy doing the video shot the day befor. I just hope he ate it and didn't worry about the horns. That is where I get mad. I used to run a game plant and guys would kill for the heads and then give the meat away. It didn't go to waste, But people like that shouldn't hunt. I hunt for food only. We can't eat the horns so I don't worry about them like some do.

Hi. I basically have a lot of trouble tacking up the horses I ride because they always wanna go all over the stall. I've been trying to learn the "Quick Release Knot" but it's too difficult and isn't safe. I want a great, easy way to tie up the horse I ride the his stall gate (theres a post beside the stall gate that's attached to the stall so it's like a support beam) and this is a GREAT way to tie up a horse. Haven't tried it yet but will tomorrow. Thanks so much!!! :D
