I think as long as the drum brain uses 1/4" TRS cables, it should work. The pads are not what I would say is complicated technology. It's connected to a piezo and that's it. TL;DR: It works with other electronics if it has a similar connection.

@aizoyurei Жыл бұрын
If you want a full-size drum kit feel, then just get one of the Roland V-drum kits. For something more compact, the new Roland SPD-SX Pro. Connect it to your Laptop and run it through Ableton Live. If you want "real" sounding drums, use a drum VST like GGD or Addictive Drums. All of the major brands sound great, so it's up to taste. If you want electronic drum sounds, you can use Ableton's drum rack and put in any sample you like! There are SO MANY options. So really up to you what route you wanna go! TL; DR E-kit or drum pad + laptop + ableton + Drum VST or samples = WIN!

Do I need to use the splitter cable or do I run the pedal to the BT-1, then from the.BT-1 to the SPD-SX?? Thanks for a great video!!

In using this spiliter technique, is there anyway to hook-up (1) an hi-hat pedal and pad to the SPD-SX along with (2) a kick pad to create a compact and portable e-drum set?
@aizoyurei2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean! Unfortunately, the SPD-SX doesn't support hi-hat functionality. You could do that with the Octapad. But for some reason, Roland removed the hi-hat trigger functionality from the SPD-SX. A small work around is you can use one pad for closed hats and one for open hats and then have them in the same choke/mute group. But then you have to use 2 pads for hi-hats only.

Hey! Thanks for watching! Glad to be of some inspiration! - Is the TD-11 in your way? Nah, not at all. If I was gonna do some roll-type fills between the 3P and the SPD-SX then maybe. I was very much inspired by Travis Orbin with this set up. I think this angle makes it look more in the way than it really is. But, if I'm playing something on the SPD, it'll be with my right hand and left hand for the 3P. Although I do use 3P for some intro/breakdown/outro beats so I'll use both my hands. You can't see it, but there is a KD-9 right next to the kick drum which goes into the 3P. Thanks again for watching! If you do rearrange your setup, let me know! Love to check it out here or on Instagram! (I use the same name on insta)

I’m going to give it a try this week and re arrange all the gear. You know how big a pain in the neck all of that can be. Eventually I think I’m going to have 2 different kit setups: 1) A traditional Vdrums kit just basic 4 piece kit ride 2 crashes 2) A multipad kit focused more on live looping/mini travel kit with heavy Abelton live integration. I have just been getting into learning the possibilities that live can offer. Working with daw program s has also opened me up to wanting to explore more of production side of things. It has shown me some of my weaknesses and made me want to learn music theory and become basic keyboard player. I definitely have new appreciation on synthesizer side of things . Learning to use sequencers and sample chopping, live looping all opening up my understanding of how music can be put together. Will def look you up on insta and post pics of my new rig setup.

@@mattryan6886 Awesome! Yeah, man. After I got sick of being in bands, I started trying to write more of my own stuff and it totally does show you where your weaknesses are. There's so much you can do and so much to learn, but I guess that's half the fun. The good thing is, there are soooo many resources out there. And so many cool ideas. If you're interested in music theory, one thing I did in Ableton (which I got from a video on KZbin) is to create a project that has all the different major and minor scales/chords organized. And once you create this project you can save the different scale and chord clips for use in future projects. Basically you just open a new project and drag in a key you want to write a song in and all of the building blocks are there. The chords possibilities, the scales, etc. It's been a gigantic leap in my music production. I'm still terrible though! But at least I'm improving. Looking forward to seeing all your progress!

Can someone help me? I’ve encountered a glitch with my new SPD-SX, that I’m using together with two RT-30HR triggers mounted on two converted toms. The shopkeeper has sent to me another one but I encountered the same problem on the new machine… I’m starting to think that the issue is intrinsic to the SPD-SX in general; otherwise I’m very unlucky. The system crashes for a short time (1-2 seconds) and then returns to normal (a kind of false triggering is audible, accompanied by a noise). The defect exists using both my samples and stock sounds. I exclude that it is caused by the trigger settings, since the triggering itself is more than good; moreover, I tried to change every parameter, without any success. I have already updated the system to the latest version available (1.08). I tried to disable the polyphony, but the problem recurred. I’ve even replaced the cables, changed the electrical outlet and performed the factory reset. I’ve also tried to use other triggers. However, the problem persists. Lastly, I’ve seen on the internet that someone has encountered and solved this issue doing a deep format of the SD card or changing it. What do you think?

@aizoyurei5 жыл бұрын
If you bought it new, connect the cable it came with into the back where it says, Trig In 1/2 or 3/4. Then go in to settings [Menu --> Setup --> TRIG IN] Set it to "Head & Rim" (if it already hasn't been set to it) and adjust the trigger type to the BT-1. If the BT-1 doesn't show up in the trigger types, you might need to update to the latest version. After that, you just need to assign a sample or loop to it. If you just want a sample to play from the BT-1 (for example, a clap, etc.), set the trigger to "one shot" (and turn loop off)

Sorry I missed this. I think the SPD-S doesn't support the VH-11 officially. It was discontinued before the VH-11 came out, but I think you can still use it. It's just a bit of rubber and a piezo, so it still should function if you set the trigger to a CY-5 and the controller to the foot pedal. You probably need to mess with the settings to get it to feel right, however.

@aizoyurei5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching! OK! 1.) You will only need 2 cables to connect your RTs. You won't need any splitter cables, just one mono (like a guitar cable), and one stereo cable (has two rings on the metal part). The two cables will be plugged into TRIG IN 1/2 and 3/4 in the back of the SPD-SX. 2.) Triggers or pads connect to the TRIG IN ports in the back of your SPD-SX have their own sample/settings page, meaning, they are independent of the 9 pads on the face of the SPD. You can have 9 loops or samples on the pads and up to 4 loops/samples on external triggers/pads for a total of 13! 3.) Settings for the scenes are stored within that scene. So you'll need to set up the samples, loops, and midi assignments for each scene separately. It takes a while to set up but it allows for extremely flexible use. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey! Thanks for watching! The three modules (TD-11, SPD-SX, and Digitakt) are connected by midi cables. But here’s a more precise breakdown. Midi signal path: - Triggers/Pads > TD-11 - TD-11 (midi out) -midi cable-> SPD-SX (midi in) - SPD-SX (midi out) -midi cable-> Digitakt (midi in) Any midi note played on the pads/triggers will will trigger the same note on all three modules. For example, the kick triggers “C1,” and I only want the kick to sound on the Digitakt. So I reduce the volume of the kick on the TD-11 and make sure that none of the 9 pads on the SPD-SX are programmed to receive that particular data. However, I want the snare to sound on the TD-11 and to layer it with a sample on the Digitakt, so the snare trigger triggers both modules with one note (D1, I think). This seems overly complicated. I suppose if I had a TD-50, I could eliminate the need for the TD-11 and Digitakt, but it’s pricey and I’m not such a huge fan of the onboard sounds. The main reason I added the Digitakt was because I wasn’t satisfied with the kick, snare, and tom sounds. I mostly use it for cymbals.
