It’s uplifting to see labor market experts talk about non-cognitive skills as I do believe there are many individuals out there who could contribute significantly to a business or governmental organization that are overlooked because they are judged not to have the right education, training, and/or experience.

Great video! I know from experience that capacity building is complex. It is important that you implement a time-tested process with essential steps such as assessing your goals, creating a supportive learning environment, implementing a follow-up plan, and evaluation. Capacity building is more than just training and includes: - Human resource development, the process of equipping individuals with the understanding, skills and access to information, knowledge and training that enables them to perform effectively. - Organizational development, the elaboration of management structures, processes and procedures, not only within organizations but also the management of relationships between the different organizations and sectors (public, private and community).

Wait so a grueling job as a slave under the sun were you don't get any protection for your health and don't have any stability are great for "economic stability" but are necessary for humanities survival, yet we treat them like the dirt they till. Then we pay someone loads of money and pay for their health care and retirements, to manage the boxes of metal that send electric signals around the world to manage the slaves to make sure we have food and toys! What a strange world we have created.

The productivity is measured in the margins; productivity = profits, has nothing to do with how much the workers are getting paid. The more profitable the firm is uneven with the more workers' are paid. When a firm is 300% more profitable, it likely has to do with shrinking employee benefits and pay, partially, or even that workers are not making 300% more income, but likely are 'rewarded' with a 50 cent raise. If you rename the darwinian approach to the Walmartian approach, it would be more accurate, except that large corporations will shrink their workforce AND employee pay and benefits, retirement packages and incentives or eliminate them completely. This has been called 'streamlining' in the boardrooms and everyone nods their head in approval while the employee suffers. Same problem in any business - corruption.

I can't believe how those people can talk about "rising wages" with such cold blooded, emotionless attitude as if the ones who get their wages are some kind of aliens instead of real human beings with needs. How about your wage Professor Shamika? Should we decrease it %8 percent each year?

Isaiah Mohammed is absolutely right. Key changes to our economic structure are required or society will suffer further deterioration in the future and it’s harder to pick up the pieces when further damage is done.
