I don’t think you did proper math on health insurance. It is NOT expensive if you compare to other countries. It’s just that here you pay yourself, in other countries it’s deducted from your salary. (Not even touching the US case because that’s more than disgusting) Any noise after 10pm gets you in trouble? Myth! Party after 10pm on the weekend? Well… what do you expect? I’m sure if you warn neighbours about people visiting you noone’s gonna call the police. Are you saying teenagers in other countries don’t smoke as much? Or is it that they are just „braver” to show themselves smoking in Switzerland? The statistics don’t confirm what you’re saying. In general you’re just perpetuating BS. Heard all of it before moving to Switzerland. Urban legends and myths.

Even as a Swiss I find the cowbells cute, especially since I’ve spent a lot of my summer holidays in the Alps as a kid 😅 Chocolate though, if you want cheap but good quality I’d recommend buying Migros’ own brand (the largest supermarket chain in Switzerland), called Frey, which is surprisingly good and are often somewhat cheaper than the more famous brands. If you can afford to splurge. I’d recommend Sprüngli any day, but even for us locals prices can be eye-watering so don’t feel bad if you can’t afford it 😉

Hi, Olivia! I'll be in Dolomites (Italy) in mid-September, and decided to add 4 days in Interlaken region (Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Oeschinen) and also Staubifall. Please, if I go around at 20-24th Sept. will I still get everything vivid, beautiful green and the waterfalls full of water? Thank you!

Surprisingly good list. Wine is a bit weird, we do have some decent wines, but if you want to buy some memorable ones, buy Italian or french. Instead, get some Absinth or another typical swiss strong alcohol, it'll last much longer.

Problem is, if its cheaper, everyone runs to the doctor because of a caugh, witch pushes the prices for all of us. I havent been to the doctor since 5 years, so i actually pay for nothing right now. But as soon as there is a major problem, youll be more than happy about the insurance.

As a not-quite-but-sorta-Swiss: leave the gimmicky and widely available victorinox knives and get yourself some snacks to take home: basler leckerli or rahmtäfeli. You can probably take those on a plane if you leave them unopened and they're delicious snacks that don't spoil easily. Also, try thomy mayonnaise with lemon. It's great. If you really want a nice knife, get an Opinel, but get them at home. DO get those key chains and cow bells if you want. Heck, get a yodeling murmeli. Who cares. We once brought a tablecloth at a market on the 1st of August that we still use after years and years. Skip the widely available toblerone, but callier isn't all that special either. Get local local. If you're looking to spend, there's probably some bougie watches you could get but I don't think that's really a souvenir.

I am so lucky to live here. Came here 30 years ago and what I miss is my country and familly... Perfect is nowhere but if someone tries, can find a hair eve on egg. I pay abour 850 Fr for me and wife and franchise about 500 Fr during a year. So I think the Informaton she gave is really missleading. Anyway, it would be better to mention a good things you find in Switzerland that makes Switzerland as a one of the best countries in the world.

I totally agree with issues about the health insurance and I am Swiss. I don't know who invented this system but they are taking us all for a ride. It's crazyyyyy and not in a good way. About the quiet hours I can only say it really depends on where you live and who your neighbours are. Good luck!! 🍀
