That simple "Yeah, you suck..." from who I assume is the cameraman made my day. Edit: I love how you made fun of the "having an epiphany" trope. I need more if this.

It’s not that Moriarty is dumb, it’s that’s he’s arrogant. Yes, Chess masters KNOW that game is lost, but the audience needs to see how arrogant and blinded by it he is.

That's what I thought about the chess game... It made them look bit dumb. Even if it was cool play.

I think Moriarty's shock isn't in losing the board game, but rather that he lost the real game he and Holmes had been engaged in this whole time. He lost due to two simple observations and a textbook lift, things so small, he didn't even consider them to be important. In this game, Holmes getting captured and strung up like a side of beef is the Queen sacrifice, a risky play that ultimately wins the whole thing for team Holmes.
@Talancir2 күн бұрын
4:04 The camera angle defeated you. Moriarty merely pushed the queen back into place. It's the music that provides the flex.

I've gotten 5x 1's on an aces-wild game. Our rules meant if you changed the number to the ace, they were no longer wild (obviously, what would be?). It was a wild round. Now I know it's 7770:1 that that happened, which is cool.

I was so excited when these released on VHS. 😂 I thought they were ok... not great or anything, but I would have kept buying them, well asking my mom to buy them. Or Christmas. Even as a kid I understood that the 'budget' of course would be small, and we wouldn't get to see all the crazy stuff from the book. This is before I actually knew what a budget was. Peoples expectations tend to be too high.

4:09 nobody. But that doesn't change two important facts. First, that not all digital effects are made equal. We're either "money for nothing" on MTV or this (and a few others), with a few in between, but which also places them in the shoite category. Second, directors (who are supposed to be the dogs that herd sheep, not the herd's owner, the seller, the herd's groomer, the herd's ground, light, air, the mother and the father, the very god of all sheep...) are really garbage at actually understanding what it is that they push out of their mouth, let alone what it is that they think they want. That, and other factors ends you up with ... the scorpion king, and a whole sludge of other goblin shaite you'd never want to see again for the rest of your life. There's an entire dissertation's worth to discuss on the issues of working inside a computer, when your mind hasn't even begun to grasp what it is that it wants. Architects putting out products made entirely on CAD and the product being... something that would've gotten them hung'n strung by the court a few decades before. TLDR: digital effects good, put incompetent idjeots behind them, not good.

I will say though, with Bootstrap joining in and the turns going clockwise, why was Jones so confident to say Will had lost after he bet 8 5’s? If Bootstrap was the only one who could call Will a liar, did Jones expect him to? In the extended scene Will beat Jones already, playing for his father’s freedom. Why would he think that Bootstrap would join in to risk that new freedom, and throw his son under the bus? Will would have lost against just Jones anyway

My version of explaining the game was "Post man pat - post apocalypse - simulator" i remember putting it down after a couple hours cuz i just didnt get what was going on and i found it boring... ...then a couple months later i picked it back up, and its a beautiful game, very immersive movements and makes every small victory feel so well earned

20:48 -ish An egoist who's under pressure *can* have their attention misdirected by applying emotional pressure to a tender point, no? THAT is why Moriarty didn't catch the full status of the game on the board.

Interesting that the Ellimist had a moment where he was godlike and Crayak wasn't. And he didn't decide to kill Crayak in the moment, instead he pretty much announced himself knowing that Crayak would become a God too. Why not kill Crayak then Toomin? Perhaps loneliness and he wanted someone to play games with?

The reason people don't like this sherlock is not because of a "lack of cgi action" or whatever. No, this is hollywood's attempt to make an action movie out of Sherlock. Traditionally sherlock holmes storeies are not action thrillers. They focus on solving crimes with deductive reasoning and having clever twists. This move is disliked because it turns sherlock into james bond/jason bourne. It simply doesn't appeal to anyone who actually likes Sherlock Holmes stories and is confusing to action fans.
@TykusBalrog13 күн бұрын
Moriarty had already lost by 13:18. That rook does nothing to prevent Sherlock moving his bishop to C1. That gives him the checkmate right there. The only thing Moriarty could've done is stall by moving his queen to check sherlocks king, but then Sherlock would obviously just move it as he did, and then you're right back to this position. He can do one meaningless move and then Sherlock could've beaten him with Bishop to C1. So there was no need for them to trade rooks. Sherlock was just toying with him then.

what is kind of fun about liars dice is that there are so many different versions of it, and due to the nature of the game being basically mandatory to be played only when highly intoxicated, most of them are vaguely followed more so in spirit then as laws.

Depending on the rules I guess the next player can say that the one making a bet is exactly right. It's a risky move nut IIRC if it turns out to be true then everyone else loses a die. Not sure if they had that option in the movie.

Just because he was pirating, doesn’t make him a bad dad. It makes him a criminal, but that was probably a really common job to be out at see for long periods of time. What are you talking about? Would he be a good dad if he was gone just as long, but doing an honest shipping job? lol It’s not like he chose to be gone forever he was thrown overboard and then turned into a ghost.
