What if you lost the mouth piece? (This can happen on certain failure points.) It should be trained with a removed reg in front of your mouth.

Great video! This was perfect for preparing myself and giving me an idea on how to instruct this skill before learning in open water. Vital for IDC. There's lots of demonstration videos out there, but not many that would go through how to conduct and manage the skill with students so thoroughly.

Because you need to be able to help yourself first before you can manage the situation with your octo or your buddies octo.
@delyanpopov6983
@delyanpopov6983 4 ай бұрын
Is that skill still being taught? What problem does it solve? You can perfectly well breathe from a freeflowing regulator without removing half of the mouthpiece and thus risking inhaling water and adding stress to an already stressfull situation. For a recreational single-tank diver: 1. signal your buddy/guide/team. Eventually switch to your octopus if not freeflowing too. 2. Begin ascent as a team, respect ascent speed. 3. Monitor SPG and be prepared for OOG (assume your tank will last 1-2 minutes or maybe even less). Obviously, dont panic, but dont waste your time at depth either. Simple, effective, saves your life. Safe dives everybody

I appreciate the obvious dedication and care of the instructor, but this particular exercise has always seemed to over-complicate the very important/essential skill of using a compass. I look forward to being convinced otherwise. Personally, I never touch the bezel, except for pointing it the direction of "home". Even then, I do my best to remember the compass bearing for "home" in case the bezel gets knocked/moved during the dive. 🙂

Love this. Wonderful to see students being taught to this level of excellence, rather than being rushed through a programme just to make $$$, as so many dive centres do.
