Thanks so much for this, I'm 64 going in on the 18th of June 2024. This helps me a lot, hearing this! I don't think my situation is as bad as yours, although debilitating for sure. Don't have the disc issue, pretty much "bone on bone" at L4 L5. Nerve pain down my right leg into foot. Foot sometimes felt like the bottom had been scratched off (after initial injury about 5 months ago). Literally gone, but obviously not. Starting about 5 - 10% down my left leg as well. I have always been able to walk, bent over like with a shopping cart.

@The Fuzed Life. Do you feel stiffness with the plate and screws? I am asking only because I had a severe arm and shoulder injury. They actually had to rebuild the ball of my shoulder. I have a plate and screws in my upper left arm that goes into my shoulder and I am still 5 years out doing some of the PT exercises. If I get lazy and skip a day or 2, I feel stiff. I am not sure if it's the injury, scar tissues, or the plate and screws. Also, do you have to do PT exercises for life? I am middle-aged...nearly 60 years old. I walk 3 miles a day although with the leg pain, (sciatica) it's really been hard. and can lift 4 lb weights. My left arm is limited due to the injury. I am nowhere as in shape as you are. I am also obese. My surgeon suggested TLIF surgery based on my MRI and Xrays. If I didn't have this sciatica pain life would be more bearable. Thank you so much for making this video. I am still debating but your video makes it sound not as scary and painful as I thought.

Hi I know this video was a while ago, im sure youre doing great. I had several spine surgeries, first of all i had a rare blood cancer, solitary plasmacytoma ,with a tumor wrapped around my spinal cord at the C2 ,very scary, a difficult surgery for my neurosurgeon but i had the best of the best. I had the laminectomy and fusiom,n of C2-4 and woke up with a drain in the back of my head,my whole back of hair shaved off and a catheter in. I too had dilaudid and basically no pain at all. I also have Lupus so im used to chronic pain.Now four years later im having severe problem shown in my mri, L4,5 S1 its been getting worse for a while now but had to wait as i had my second cancer just two yrs from the first, breast cancer- treatments were the absolute worst , ill take surgery pain any day. Im not worried about the surgery though, the first one i could of been easily paralyzed and it was cancer. Anyway, anyone getting this dont worry too much its not bad, i def had way worse surgeries.

It is all relative. Patient x was 36 and had a two level MI-TLIF L4-S1 in 2007. She had been an Olympic athlete pre-op. At 20 hours post-op I visited, and she was walking on the spot. I asked how long she had been doing this. She looked at her watch, and said "27 minutes".

Hey Man, Why didn't you go for Disc Replacement? My doctor has suggested Spinal Fusion but I am confused b/w Spinal FUsion and Disc Replacement. Could you comment please?

Which hospital? I live in El Paso. And I'm hoping if I do get surgery it's a good hospital.

I'm trying to average 10k a day. Some days will be 5K, others 15k. I work a job where I can't bring any step tracker to work, so none of my steps count work hours. My averages likely much higher. I have been doing it for 60 days, and feel a lot better. Combining with 3x a week hypertrophy training

Man I know this is an old video but I have now been 2 of all of this crap. Telling me that I have to have this surgery but surgeon tells me I’m to you and I need to do physical therapy. Today was first day of therapy. Therapist tells me the therapy is better than surgery. I’m stuck in a corner and everyone is just taking our money and not caring about fixing the problem. I’m so tired.

Just had the same surgery 2 weeks ago. Everything you said it exactly the way it was. Just need to take it easy because when you start feeling better it’s hard not to want to do things and you can overdo it very easily. I did and it se me back a bit.Thanks

I’ve been a Pilates teacher and movement educator for over 20 years. Just walking 22 min is a huge achievement. Yes tons of money In PT when I watch this video how much money the company made but did me no favors.this was common sense as the injections Dr's throughout the years knew the process of what my back was doing. I'm also a bacterial meninjitus baby that's also a warning sign big one. PT is not going to cure me at all its not a accident injury that can be healed completely and that's PTs main focus and goals for patients.

Great video, I had l2-s1 fusion with disks replaced at 4 and 5 been a bit over 7 months and I still have to lay down throughout the day due to pressure pain. Did you experience anything like that?

So it sounds like the surgery isn't the final solution? Like the surgery is one thing but you need to physically work at taking care of your back the rest of your life? I am at the point where PT has helped but I am considering surgery because i keep popping my disc (L5/S1). I am planning on discectomy surgery. My doc even told me the point of surgery isn't to solve the problem long term, is to help get me back to the point where i can work the muscles to prevent reoccurrence
