I also play multiple games at the same time, depending on my mood, brain power and frustration tolerance at that moment. :) My partner is the opposite, he only plays one game until he finishes it. I'm a bit embarrassed at the amount of games I bought during the Halloween switch sale - he probably thinks I'm crazy. xD This month I've mostly been playing Pentiment, The Last Campfire, Metamorphosis and Creaks. When I'm too tired to think I play Cozy Grove and I was also testing pre-alfa of another Spry Fox game. This experience made me wonder a lot about the development of games, like what are the stages and everything that comes into it. I don't know anything about game design and I think I would appreciate games more if I had a bit more knowledge about it. :)

haha we have a similar dynamic with our partners - I'm also the one in the relationship that's buying and juggling games all the time 😁 Pentiment!! love that game. I've never heard about the last 2 games you mentioned, Metamorphosis looks super interesting! I've been thinking of some YT video ideas that include more of a game design perspective - good to know there's interest, I may try and incorporate that in future videos 👀 thank you for watching 💜☺️

@@bubchi omg Pentiment is so special! Just finished it, I even cried a bit (when Andreas went into his mind palace/labyrinth for the last time). I like "choose your own adventure" style but the main reason I love Pentiment so much is attention to detail. They put so much work and research into it to make it authentic. I even learned some new things about the history of central Europe (I'm coming from the "sunny side of the Alps"). I think it's a true work of art. Do you know of anything else that might be enjoyable for an art history lover like me?

ahh yeah Pentiment is really one-of-a-kind - unfortunately I can't think of any other games I've played that tackle art history in that way, with such attention to detail and historical accuracy! would love to find more though 👀 however if it helps - I first found out about Pentiment in a thread where people were recommending games similar to Disco Elysium. Disco Elysium is one of my fave games ever, but it's only really similar to Pentiment in terms of its in-depth, incredible writing and characters, and the CYOA + roleplaying aspects (which go even deeper than Pentiment). It's a beautifully detailed game but in a very different way, with a fictional setting but very inspired by real world society and politics. also, for some reason Pentiment makes me think of Gorogoa, which is a beautiful, artistic puzzle game. it doesn't have any art history type lore or anything, but I think it visually feels similar to me.

Just starting the video now so I'll probably leave multiple comments if I remember to, haha 😅 A Walk With Yiayia sounds so touching 🥺 My Nana had a fall when she was in her 90s and I imagine it is so scary! She bounced back incredibly well all things considered. I recently played Venba which is a tiny bit older but also has that cultural story connection it sounds like Yiayia does 💜

Ooooh, dystopian is my favourite genre! I can't wait for Stray to come to Switch. I have only played Portal so far (many years ago) and it really is amazing. Thinking of playing it again to try the co-op mode. :) Also, I love your channel. I have recently purchased Switch and checked many cozy gaming KZbinrs, you're my favourite so far! ^_^ You have a calm demeanour and a different, unique perspective. Happy Halloween, sub #34 :3

It's not exactly cozy (in fact it can be kinda scary), but I would consider Soma to have some tech horror and existential horror mixed together. It's kind of hard to explain without spoiling a whole bunch of it though 😅 There is a mode in the game where you can turn off enemy aggro so instead of the big monster things attacking you, they'll just kind of come up and look at you curiously. But the atmosphere is still scary enough that I would not call it cozy.

ooo yes Soma! have heard excellent things about this game from a design and atmosphere standpoint, tho from the sounds of it I def would not be able to play through it alone, even with the non-aggro mode 😅 I do super appreciate that they have that, I'd love to see more games with a similar mode. I'll prob have to cave and watch a stream/let's play of it sometime... (with the lights on, lol)

I played it a few years back, somehow didn't see there was a non-aggro mode, and did a normal playthrough which stressed me tf ouuuut! 😂 I'm awful with horror games (and yet I'm playing Fear the Spotlight currently, please tell me why I subject myself to this lol).

Great video and recommendations, but I don't think the Walking Dead and 'cozy' belong in the same sentence. It's bleak, depressing, and gory at times. And the split second QTE decision making mechanic can be stressful. It's a really great game that maybe has like 1 or 2 jumpscares but I wouldn't call it cozy at all.

Ooh, thank you for this comment. I totally forgot to mention the quick time events - I agree QTEs can be stressful for some. And honestly, I agree with what you said overall: TWD is bleak and gory at times, and it will not feel cozy for many! 100%! But... it still feels like it fits into the cozy x horror category for me, personally 🥲 (unpopular opinion, perhaps). While uncommon, I have seen TWD mentioned once in a while in cozy gamer spaces when discussing games that are dark, but cozy. It's def intense, which is why I put it in the scariest category of this list. I think the main reason it registers as "dark but cozy" for me is the fact that it's a story-driven point & click adventure game, and the gameplay itself requires no skill - it feels like playing an interactive TV show. For the most part (except for QTEs), you can take your time picking dialogue, exploring a location, etc. There's no combat mechanics, just clicking. The only mechanic that is "difficult" is the occasional QTE, but they didn't happen frequently enough to bother me - but ymmv! Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts! ✨
