This is a really helpful guide. Do you share your notes with your team members? Or are your notes from the 1:1 and check-ins just for the manager's reference?
@pimenovaelena29 күн бұрын
I know managers who share their notes, but I don't - sometimes how I write it is kinda unfiltered, good enough for me but not good enough to share with someone else. But that's not a rule, many managers do indeed share!

Ahh thank you to youtube for recommending this to me! I have always hated networking, more so because of social anxiety than introversion, but I really need to get comfortable with it as I look at doing more freelance work and social media promotions. It feels like people that like and understand networking have this way of getting places and connections that I have just never understood or had come naturally to me. Thanks for making this video, will definitely be checking out your channel!

I very much trained my social muscle but big groups are still very hard. I "ended up" back in academia but there was one year between my postdoc and my first faculty position where I considered going into industry (I did physics and computational neuroscience) and was told that only networking really works because many positions are filled like that. I went to two events and luckily had a person I knew who became my sort of guide to the first one. But it was still very hard. I was 29 at that point and had never done professional events outside of academia. And I even struggle in academic settings outside of the actual talks and scientific interactions. I got a data science consulting job fairly quickly so I gave up on networking events and now, in my mid-30s, I feel I bit sad that I never put a bit more work into it because even if it's uncomfortable, I feel like it might have been an interesting experience.

@@justaname999 can 100% relate. Although you know what, I saw people that change industries in their 50s,and do networking in their new areas from scratch - maybe it's not too late for us after all? 😅

How do you find a workplace where you don't get sexually harassed?
@pimenovaelena3 ай бұрын
Damn, this is one of the worst thing that can happen to a person at work. It should be inexcusable, it's so screwed up that in some companies this is still happening. Answering your question - usually if you work for a company with a big name, public, international, this lowers a chance. They know that their share price depends on their reputation, so they have policies to prevent harassment at the workplace. It doesn't always work, but you are much more protected.

My work Owner was exactly as you described cut hours down where we had to work solo 3hours everyday in a busy shop and still expecting the work to still be completed to a high standard he was constantly asking for stock takes/re takes daily, stock ordering to be be done on time the deliveries to worked the shop to be fully filled/ tidy and even the shop to be cleaned. If you ever object to doing it on time he would tell you it’s not that difficult and to stop moaning about it just just get on with it and if it’s not done you should look for another job also he doesn’t need to reward or thank you as he’s paying you to do your job. He’s only thanks you once you’ve done what is asked but if you ever go question it or refuse to do something he turns toxic and unprofessional. I told him to stick the job last week and feel like a big weight has been lifted I’d rather be unemployed than be treated like that and I don’t miss the stress burnout it was causing me both mentally and physically.

Hi! Thank you for the video! I have a question - you've mentioned that saying "we are the family" is a red flag. Why is that?
@pimenovaelena3 ай бұрын
Usually what managers mean by that is not "I will treat you with care as in a family", but rather "I will ask you to work like hell and will not give a fair pay because it's for a family"

If you have a bad manager don't even waste another minute in that job. Quit the job. Guaranteed you will find a better job. It's like the Universe wants you to identify when you are being mistreated and take steps to get out of dysfunctional situations. It works for me. Every time. If I discover the manager is bad or narcissistic, I quit without notice.

Love your channel! Thank you so much for the content. The way I deal with it and use it to feel comfortable asking for things from my team is to have the mindset that I don't ask for things that I would not ask from myself. Usually following this approach I can get the effort I need to get out of my team without feeling guilty.
