As someone who knows physics I have always had a problem with that people says that blue is cool, already as a little kid I knew that when you heat up metal it is first red (the cooler temperature), but when you heat it up it will be more and more towards the blue end of the spectrum. The same goes for stars. So blue is really hot ♨️
@saratoga6663Ай бұрын
@@savagesarethebest7251well that is only by black body radiation, humans feel heat more through infrared light than ultraviolet light meaning it’s still correct to say red is warm and blue is cool
@BeyondTheProcessАй бұрын
@@savagesarethebest7251 I do love me some science. But like I said with purple while it’s considered cool on the spectrum in RELATION to other colors, it can also be warm. Knowing those instances is what I’m pointing out. Also blue and orange flames come to mind, like when using oxy-acetylene.
@TripleBarrel06Ай бұрын
Physics and metallurgy don't really come into the reasoning for this terminology tbh. It's literally as simple as "thing warm in sun, sun make yellow/orange colour on thing, thing cool in shade, shadow make blue/indigo colour on thing."

Nice Lance! Say Ciao to Italia man! Man I'm jealous. Stop by Zecchi's in Florence for some art supplies for me:) Lived in Castiglion Fiorentino for a semester and loved it. I think it's probably pretty close to you. It's near Arezzo and Florence.

So there's a tremendously talented artist who lives and has a studio here in Greve. We've purchased several of his beautiful watercolors before and a few years ago, I asked if he teaches at all and at the time he told me "No." So we were again in his shop a couple of days ago and so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask again since many years had passed. This time he agreed to do so and guess where he recommended I go to buy supplies?? That's right, Zecchi's! I thought it was pretty ironic that I first heard about it from you and then this great artist also recommended I go there like two days later. Pretty crazy.

Really useful video. I'm colour-blind, so I'm definitely not a colourist. I heavily rely on values. I use mostly ink (pure or diluted) and sometimes a very restricted palette of colours that I see well (Payne's Gray, French Ultramarine Blue, Ceruleum blue, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ocre). I'm learning how to use them properly.

@@EuropaPhoenix oh wow, that’s interesting. My grandfather was color blind, but he wasn’t an artist. But you know who was? FREDERICK REMINGTON. I lived close to the museum in northern Nee York and one of the docents informed me of this. Looking at some of his paintings it kind of made sense as he would come up with some interesting choices. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and good luck in your studies!

You would get almost the same colour in real life too, because as you sad, it’s the wrong blue, that is too close to purple, which is opposite to the yellow and opposite colours always give grey. To mix a green you should have taken cyan or any other more greenish blue

Gotta do cyan

It's commonly exposed by blur effects, that simply average the values. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember it as follows: Since the resulting color is determined by the brightness of each color channel. consider each channel the coordinates of a vector, and calculate the magnitude. That's your brightness. Hence (255 255 255) being pure white. Averaging the color before and after calculating the brightness will yield different results. I believe most engines averaging after results in this effect.

I remember seeing a very technical explanation of this somewhere. It was some oversight in how the maths is done to add the colours causing it to look horrible.
@ashomox37812 ай бұрын
My (uneducated) guess is that it must have something to do with the RGB screen as opposed to the basic RYB (which is hard to get a good purple) with or the best color set (in my opinion) MYC

I often get anxiety just wondering how the hell one works their way around inking Gene Colan's lavish pencils in the first place. Even greats like Tom Palmer did NOT have their work cut out for them--just look at all the greys and cross hatching in his lineart! I've heard someone say that the secret is that Colan treats Cast Shadows and Modeling Shadows (whatever that means) as the same thing in his drawings, but I doubt that makes it any less challenging to ink his stuff good though. Inking isnt just tracing, it's an art skill in of itself! P.S. That said, Ive also heard that Gene designed drawings that were meant to be inked in a specific way. Someone told me they found a Colan original and asked Tom Palmer to ink it, and he politely declined and pointed out that the specific sketch wasnt meant to be inked. (It was this sketch below, specifically) www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=273213&fbclid=IwY2xjawFKCZZleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHQK2M7_sOWFffTEMiXD62NplLJdfhBta13rrXwURGrKneaCh0rUEV055VQ_aem_sDjh_SKqVuwnr1mmKd13ag

"I am NOT your father!" But easily old enough to be. Back in the day, I did "presentation" storyboards for Ad Agencies to show to their clients (or would-be clients) what they had in mind for the next TV ad. I did very few "working" storyboards, the kind you guys are talking about. These were little more than pretty pictures, usually finished to a fairly high degree, for all for the imagination-impaired CEOs and their entourage. I am also, especially for the last decade or so, an Indy comics artist, so I am deep into that business. I rely heavily on Vector Layers in Clip Studio Paint for everything from roughs to finished art. It's a lot of fun watching you guys work and discuss the mechanics of this particular sausage-making.
