Wow! Didn't realize you could get a thread mill that small. ... I spent several weeks looking at the job board at least once a day, not once did I see a single job that would have been possible and/or profitable with my machine. I even contacted them and let them know of my concerns, considering most of the jobs being sent to me were impossible to do (with no way to filter them out), and they didn't really seem to care at all...

I am also looking for a solution to make my 24'FE501 a bit more quiet - as in stock form it is hurting my ears (and I know my neighbours do not appreciate the noise level neither). So what is your experience after 10 months with this custom end cap? Did this combo solved to problem or is the noise level more or less about the same as with stock end cap? agree, with all the oiling concerns. Note all the Corvettes since the C5 have this "issue". not only that but the early lower volume "dry sump" OEM setups didn't fix it either. C6 GS + are ok, they are 9-10 quart "dry sump". C7 Z51 is that as well but with the LT1. You are better off just getting a crate motor from one of those generations of motors or find one salvaged. aftermarket dry sumps are great but high $$$. this being a 5.3 it sounds somewhat budget. the rumor is that only about 1second of sustained G I hear "left" but it should be turning right based on the 2 sweepers at NCM are 'Rights" but either way.... IF you ever wondered why Vettes' are slow on track this is the reason the owners must know that without that "dry sump" setup they can kablamo. Your builder has no idea that the LS is weak here he only builds them for street/roll race quarter mile, stop light stuff....
@PowerSports
@PowerSports Ай бұрын
Yeah, budget for sure, can barely afford two races per year, and took ~7 years to finish building the car. ... I have been looking around for a salvage engine, but the prices people want for a Corvette engine with 100k+ miles is absolutely insane. ... Do you think a 3qt accusump would be enough, or is the problem in the architecture of the block itself? Dry sumps are way out of budget and I don't even think the pump would fit under the headers due to the tight engine bay. 🙃🙃🙃

@@PowerSports I think in general the LS has a problem with oiling that is truly only solved with a "dry sump" setuip. HOWEVER, camaros with certain generation LS/LT don''t seem to have the same issue, I don't know why, I would look on the forums of camaros for that and if not repeat their pan/pump setup. I am getting a C7 Z51 this WE as a track toy didn't look at Camaro as they are too heavy

@@PowerSports yeah, like Ozarks that you noted, those don't seem long by most standards but they are for the LS. I have been leary of corvettes for a long time for this reason, as they weren't prevalent as a track tool except by slow drivers "having the experience" but the modern corvettes are super capable under the right specification. a guy I know runs Barber alot in a c7 z06, and it's not modified in those ways at all and has had no issues. a guy brought a c5 with expensive dry sump set up to COTA, no issues.

@francoisrivard893 Ай бұрын
Beautiful track! Sorry about the problem. Can be many things. Unfortunately, some of it could be traced to your engine builder. Older LS's are known for somewhat weak oiling systems, especially for high g road racing applications. That's the reason why many racers with LS based engines run an Accusump, to help even out oil distribution. Also, a properly baffled road racing oil pan is a must and a windage tray a great idea. (The windage tray will give you "free" HP at high RPM's by reducing friction from splashing oil-- like 8-10 HP at 6,000 RPM believe it or not, and of course keep the oil from getting aerated, frothy, and not so good at handling heat and friction ) . Canton makes good road racing oil pans. If your oil was too aerated (Sucked some air along with the oil) the pressure cold still look pretty good while oiling is less than great. I was a NASA instructor / time trial guy for several years, even with proper oiling I've seen many a $18-20K custom built engine go boom on the first day, regardless if it was a Ford / Chevy / Mopar / Custom block. How many hours on the engine before it threw a rod?
@PowerSports
@PowerSports Ай бұрын
I was running a "road racing" pan with baffle plate and two trap doors. Also the stock windage tray under the crank. Do not have an Accusump, but it is now on my to-do list when I rebuild the motor in 2026, lol. 😅 That is not good it can suck air and still read good pressure, is there any way to know if the oil was getting aerated? The engine only had 3000 miles on, so 60mph average, about 50 hours, which IMO is brand new. That motor was built for double the horsepower it was putting down. Should have lasted forever, lol. 🙃

Fellow LS 944 friend here. What did you do for oiling? Accusump, drysump, baffled pan, etc... LS weakness despite any race goodies is the oiling system. LS blocks do not have priority main oiling. If you're going to do serious racing, you'll need at minimum an Accusump, but most would highly recommend a dry sump system, or aftermarket block with priority main oiling like the LS-style blocks from RHS. Sorry about your luck; I've been there. Threw three rods out of bottom of my built LS1 at Putnam Park in 2017. Running LS3 with 3 qt Accusump now, probably should go drysump, but I'm just planning on using the car for DEs now. Good luck!

You should have unscrewed both the yellow and red adjusting screws that may have been why you were still hearing the metallic clicking sound, because the bottom screw if not adjusted precisely will hold the throttle plate open a little. Also the tps sensor should be checked with a multi meter for 0 to 5 volts you can use the cable mike sent you to power the ecu so you don't have to keep starting the bike just pull the striped ends off the wires clamp them under the battery and plug into one of the y connectors.
