An example of McCartney's really unusual vocal brilliance when he was a Beatle and in his vocal prime. Amazing.

Imagine Jagr & Lemieux in their prime in the current NHL with zero holding, hooking, tripping, fighting, slashing, defensive play, interference, big tough player, etc. Along with all those modern superior equipments of today. They had easily killed the current NHL. None of those young played had dared to touch both ones, they're so much bigger and stronger than everyone in NHL now.

Love this unusual placement of John and Paul sharing a mike stand. The mad harmony in this song makes it obvious that Lennon was not only a writer - but a singer with his own gifts thankfully shared. Ringo gets to shine here as not many drummers sing.

Little Richard's influence on Paul's vocals on Kansas City is unmistakeable, and he does it really well, he's got that black gospel feel to his voice despite being a white boy from Liverpool, who incidentally can also croon like a choirboy when he wants, and his bass playing on I'm A Loser and Boys is way ahead of its time for a pop band then. Often overshadowed by John he was a real rocker (and still is!)

So what should it be ?
@5400bowen
@5400bowen Жыл бұрын
@@Bella-nt7ec the name of the song isn’t “Kansas city”. It’s “Crazy Little Women”. The line is “they got some crazy little women there, and I’m gonna get me one”. Most people think it’s ‘Kansas City”due to the repetition of those words in it. It’s not a big insult to them I made. I just think it’s funny. I’m pretty sure they didn’t hear the song enough to have memorized the right words to begin with. They may have heard cover bands in England do the wrong lyrics. Or maybe there was a skip in the vinyl they had heard. Back then records and record players weren’t nearly as clear. And if it was scratched up enough , it made it extremely difficult to hear the lyrics. Info wasn’t at the touch of a screen then. And in Germany, where they got so much of their onstage time before this, it didn’t much matter what words they sang. I use to play in bars, and once you get the wrong lyrics in your head, it’s not as easy as you might think to change them after singing the wrong ones for a few months. Plus, Paul and many other performers are more focused on the delivery. To change later is prescription for being distracted from the melody and delivery and the base line and stage presence. As a child when the song was being played on the radio, I thought it was call Kansas City. It wasn’t until 20 years or so later I saw it on the record label somewhere and found out the actual title. Even a song book said “Kansas City”, with “Crazy Little Women” in parentheses below that. It’s not nearly as easy as Paul makes it look!

Singing and playing drums is even harder that doing it on other instruments. I worked with a lot of drummers , and they consistently did not sing, most of them. And said they didn’t want to and/or couldn’t and keep time. It’s the demands of rhythm that cause that. My 3rd semester music theory instructor pointed out that rhythm is the most difficult element in music. And boy did I learn that lesson!!! Plus what musicians call “his instrument”, the vocal cords etc. weren’t the best. But they were professionals. Having everyone sing at least a little gives the main singers a rest. It is easy to destroy your voice from singing too much, especially if you belt it out, or have and use a high vocal range. Ringo was a penultimate professional, and he did what he was asked that was best for the groups’ success. It also impressed pros and fans alike that every member of a band sings. Also, it is common for drummers to sing relatively simple songs, especially, of course the drum parts. They almost always keep it simple during the vocal. No put down, I play guitar and sing, and tried singing while playing the drums. Really tough with both hands and feet working at the same time!!!! OK, I’ll brag a little..I did “Jump” by Van Halen when it was current. I played the guitar solo, sang the lead vocal, and did the keyboards on the intro, verse and chorus, and played the keyboard solo too. One of my best efforts..

@@5400bowen I guess you would know from experience, but Don Henley did a great job on drums, and vocals with the Eagles. Hard to do. Hotel California is a great song, that requires a lot of effort on drums, and vocals, and he was great.

In response to a very perceptive comment I received that George's work appears to be somewhat stifled further to BforSale, I will only point out the obvious: prior to this, George provided the intro to Sir Paul's beautiful ballad 'And I love her', adding a few tasteful notes that actually MADE the song; then Sir Paul acknowledges he plays lead on most Help tracks while he takes over from George on Harrison's Revolver opener Taxman. With a wonderful piece of soloing, undeniably. Still I feel uncomfortable with the official reason proffered as an explanation for this appropriation - George was struggling to compose a solo piece to his own masterful work - so much so that he handed over the Gretsch (possibly the bue Strat) to Paul for completion. Seriously ? And then Clapton plays a memorable piece on George's 'While my guitar ...' as Harrison, feeling the others are not really paying attention, invites a most respected guest to bring some cohesion around his neglected material. Further the Let it be/Get Back fantastic footage shows George being scolded by Paul for not doing exactly what he was told to do and gradually receding in the background, eventually leaving the band before being begged to return. On the other hand 'Old brown shoe' turned out extremely well , whereas attempts to record the sublime 'All things ...' fell short of doing any justice to this exceptional piece of work. But then an unfettered George was launching his own personal career and all wrongs were righted in the face of the world with the issuance of ATMP 3-album masterpiece. So to the question: was George somewhat left to the side and not really acknowledged as a fully fledged member of the Beatle most exclusive club, well, it breaks my heart to say that, quite likely, yes !

Must have been incredible to be 10 or 12 years old at this time watching the Beatles change everything!! The Beatles didn't invent rock n roll but they updated it and then invented what pop music was going to become!!! Without them the music of the last 40 or 50 years would not be the same.
