KMGH-TV 7 Denver was McGraw-Hill Broadcasting's flagship station from the day they purchased the station from Time-Life in 1970 until 2011, when McGraw-Hill sold their broadcast TV division to the E.W. Scripps Company.

That’s my recollection as well. They moved from Bannock to Speer, and launched their new set with this music.

new set, new theme music, new graphics...all this to coincide with 9NEWS moving to 500 Speer Boulevard from 1089 Bannock in 1992. This was during KUSA's final three years with ABC before moving to NBC in 1995. RMPBS (aka KRMA channel 6) took KUSA's place on Bannock.

It's worth noting that the KUSA 1992-95 package was also utilized by KMSP Minneapolis/St. Paul, which is also on channel 9. KMSP is a rival station to KUSA's sister station KARE 11.

I don't know how the saturday morning cartoons would have an impact because of the switch of the big three networks in Denver on channels 4, 7 and 9, respectively (expect for NBC because they had the TNBC block) back in September of '95.

Between two CBS affiliates in Abilene TX and Denver Colorado each one has a reporter named Bob. The one in Abilene is still on TV to this day,

“You see, after Fox expanded, new TV partnerships sprang up around the country. One of those new partnerships was a joint venture between CBS and Group W, the broadcasting division of Westinghouse. As a result, 3 Group W stations in Boston (WBZ-TV 4), Baltimore (WJZ-TV 13) and Philadelphia (KYW-TV 3) would now broadcast CBS programs, but that new partnership created musical stations in Philadelphia. There, CBS already owned a station (WCAU-TV 10), airing CBS programs and Group W already owned a station (KYW) which would soon switch to CBS programs, so that would mean that in Philadelphia, there would potentially be 2 stations airing CBS programs, one station airing ABC shows (WPVI 6) and no station carrying NBC. To make sure that it didn’t lose millions of viewers in Philly, NBC offered to buy CBS’s station there, but CBS said for tax reasons, we prefer to trade. “We’ll give you one Philadelphia station, yes, but in exchange, we want your NBC station, KCNC-TV, in Denver, your NBC station in Salt Lake City (KUTV 2) and some of your NBC equipment in Miami (WTVJ).” NBC didn’t want to give up KCNC, its station in Denver, and KCNC was not shopping for a new network, but NBC really didn’t have much of a choice. The network absolutely had to make sure people in a major city like Philadelphia will be able to see NBC programming, so they traded. 2 NBC-owned stations and some NBC property for one station in Philly. When it became clear that KCNC-TV would change, the other networks took another look at Denver and switched their affiliations here, hence, Musical Stations for Colorado viewers.”

In Phoenix, AZ, another musical stations game happened at around the same time: KTVK 3 went from being an ABC affiliate to becoming an independent station. KPHO-TV 5 went from being independent to becoming an CBS affiliate. KSAZ-TV 10 went from being an CBS affiliate to becoming a Fox owned and operated. KNXV-TV 15 went from being a Fox affiliate to becoming an ABC affiliate.

"The station that was CBS (KSAZ 10) was bought by a company partly owned by Fox (New World Communications), so CBS defected to an independent station (KPHO 5), leaving the first one (KSAZ) without any network for a while. ABC cut a deal to move to the station that's now Fox (KNXV 15); some of the ABC programs have moved already, some have not. But the station that used to be CBS (KSAZ) would wind up being Fox; the one that used to be ABC (KTVK 3) would wind up without network programs; the one used to be NBC (KPNX 12)... uh... doesn't change at all."

This was the first TV station to break the news of 9/11. Dick Oliver, having been down at cify hall reporting on the election for mayor, heard the first plane overhead and immediately let the control room know. They broke into a commercial at 8:48, just 90 seconds after the first impact. CNN was the first network to break the story, as they also broke into a commercial at 8:49am!

What an awesome way to educate us on the switch than a KCNC Special. Originating with FOX's desire for a sports division, starting specifically with NFL football, the sequence of events ended in Philadelphia. NBC wanted to buy WCAU from CBS, thinking the peacock would keep KCNC, KUTV and the Channel 4 frequency in Miami. Instead, for tax reasons, CBS highly suggested NBC trade its properties for Channel 10 in Philly. This transaction also led to the alteration of WCIX to WFOR in Miami. As a result, KYW 3, a former NBC affiliate owned by Group W, assumed the position of CBS O&O in Philadelphia. Colorado television indeed changed forever after that mess with WCAU/KYW.

I grew up on the fringe of New York and Philly sports league footprints in Monroe Township, NJ. We were lucky that the Must Carry law at the time required Storer Cable and then later Comcast to carry both NYC and Philly sets of locals. Great for NFL season because we'd always get one extra game that a lot of cities would dream of having. Then WNBC complained that ad revenue was being lost so we had both locals for ABC, Fox and CBS, but not NBC. And then this switch happened and we got WCAU back.

Miles Crosby!! He's the radio host and Charleston and Colleton Counties DJ, realtor, and radio character known as "Uncle Miles" on the then corner Charleston-area radio station, WAVE 96.1 and later the lead DJ on the Walterboro-based WALI radio channel. He does voice-over work and on-cmaera interviews for PRTC in Walterboro. In those locally-aired television package interviews, Crosby features some of Colleton County's biggest hot spots, like the ACE Basin, Donnelly Wildlife Management & Bear Island. I seen him on PRTC TV Channel 57 on TV many times.

This is know when WCBD was an ABC station affiliate; it was one of WCBD's last newscasts as an ABC station 6 months later, until August 18. It returned to NBC the next day on August 19 of that same year, 15 days after that year's Olympic Games (which were carried by WCIV locally) ended, when I went back to Texas around that time. I didn't found this out until June 1997.
