Sounds lovely. 4 Rotary engines? That beast must go through a lot of oil...

Gotcha, 4 rotors, one engine.
@c0rpse19 жыл бұрын
n2dabloo the engine itself is called a R26B if you want to look into it. There is also the 20B which is a 3 rotor you can actually buy. Some people also recreate the R26B by combining 2 13B engines and making their own eccentric shaft.

1. The regulations outlawed MOST of the engines being used still in 1991. Such as Mercedes turbo V8, Jaguar V12 or Porsche flat-6 turbos. This change actually lead to the downfall of the whole category, as the F1-like engines were more expensive. Turning this to a rule made only and specifically against rotaries is just ridiculous. 2. It is pretty obvious the changes were made BEFORE 1991, since this year was already a transitional year and cars were infact divided into two categories.
@deggis411 жыл бұрын
Your question is nonsense since wankels alone were not banned and this rule was NOT made after their win. In 1990 FIA decided that engines have to be 3.5L piston engines, to make the engine regs similar to F1. Mazda won in _1991_. Funniest part about this myth is this assumption that 787B somehow dominated everything it entered (in World Sportscar Championship, where most Le Mans manufacturers raced), which is so untrue, since it never even finished on the podium before OR after Le Mans '91.

It is no secret that non-european companies are discriminated against. Whenever a non-european company comes up with something and starts winning races, those things are quickly banned.

yes if you win with an electric car they will ban them too (maybe they will not alow them to start anyway... you know petrol oil companys... :)

Le Mans is an endurance race and this car endured. Get over it. ( And oh, yeah, it was faster than all the others that finished.)
@morphineisgod11 жыл бұрын
It's usually the European companies that try to get other manufacturer's cars banned. They just don't like getting beat at their own game. It happened to the GT40, GT-R and the 787B, to name a few. Kind of sad.

The Ford GT40 was banned for having a 7 liter engine. I agree Mazda didn't have a successful racing career, but the closest anybody else from Japan got to first place was second in 1999.

The hell with you and all idiots repeating this bullshit ban myth. The regulations changes for 1992 season had nothing to do with Mazda or their win the previous year, especially since they were set in stone a full year before they even won. And since Mazda actually never won anything else, why would something non-dominant would be banned in the first place? The reasoning for this myth is hilarious.

That's because if they to that the car will be to fast for the health of the driver. They support lateral G similar to that of an airforce pilot, so they will just blackout and crash.

Yep, when they took on the Germans and made better, more affordable and more reliable than their european counterparts, they were called knockoffs and cheap. The Japanese know how to build great cars and I hope Mazda takes them on again in motorsports.
@deggis412 жыл бұрын
You're right, but I wouldn't even use the word "banned" unless it's also mentioned that so was most of the grid "banned" due the rules changes. And these rules changes were decided already in 1990, so it had nothing to do with the 1991 victory, but of course Mazda fanboys will gladly continue to ignore the facts and instead spread this bullshit about the "ban".

Autosport (2011): "A bit of politicking from Mazda caused the limit for rotary-engined cars - and who else could that be? - to be pegged at just 830kg. Nobody paid too much attention, but Mazda knew that having to carry 170kg less than the ostensibly faster cars for 24 hours was going to be something of an advantage." I'd underline "Nobody paid too much attention" part, remember the track record until '91 Le Mans: zero wins, zero podiums in the World Sportscar Championship.

Formula Mazda: It uses the RX-8's Renesis motor for open wheel cars. Not the same as this at all, but it is an open wheeled rotary car made by Mazda.

If other people tried to get better then other people would use similar ideas to create a similar engine tot he rotary though i whole heartedly agree with you the rotary engine just wouldn't be as special as it is today if other racers picked the idea up.

@GUTSRacing yeah but the point is if one car was really good and all the others sucked the races would be so boring and you'd have to wait the whole season before you could design a new car. with rules and limitations it forces the cars to be closer and brings it down to the skill of the driver more then the car so it truly is the driver that wins the races not the car.

@islandfd3s yup and all that cast iron can be replaced by lighter material, the housing can be replaced with alumium, you can run without a/c and with a single turbo swap also removes the air pump, you can replace the stock rotors with aluminum billet ones which result in about a 50hp increase and faster revs/response, a stock 13b block with nothing on it weighs in at 200lbs or a bit more. Now with the mods i just stated the 13bt weighs in at only 250-300lbs depending on other things
