As I am watching the Euro 2024 I have to say, the kind of defense they were playing back in the days would not cut it any longer. How unopposed and relaxed both teams were allowed to set up their offensive game. Forwards, wingers and strikers did not seem to be concerned with defending at all.

Als Deutschland noch Deutschland war und die Spieler Franz, Sepp oder Bernd hiessen. Wenn man die Bilder sieht und mit heute vergleicht, wird man traurig. Deutschland, die Nationalmannschaft , sind bis zur Unkenntlichkeit durchmigriert worden.

The best defender ? Absolutely not! He was not a “defender” he was in a unique position that’s like Zidane’s playing a bit back of the midfield. His capability and vision and techinical skills were not less than a typical 10 number. Positioning at the back was his special choice especially after 1970 . And it worked perfectly well. W.Germany national team and Bayern were built upon him, and he took all responsibility and carried all the stress, weight and difficulties. And he made it! That’s why he’s called as “Der Kaiser”. Besides his intelligence and elegance on the pitch, he earned this title with his leadership and beautiful character . It is said, Baresi or Maldini.. Neither Baresi’s technical skills nor Maldini’s intelligence would catch up with his level. He was the complete perfectness…

Franz is an authoritative type of player and can always put himself in the best position even when he loses. His refusal to personally mark Johan Cruyff in the 1974 World Cup final showed great character because as a captain, he wanted to win the final by beating the best version of Cruyff. I was lucky enough to have visited the Olimpia Munich stadium during my doctoral studies in Germany between 2004-2007. As I sat on the bench in the stadium, my memories drifted back to a long time ago, the most beautiful final match of all time, West Germany vs Netherlands or Franz Beckenbauer vs Johannes Hendrik Cruyff. Thank you Franz, for being one of the biggest icons of German and world football..!

60s and 70s football was more classical. 80s and 90s was then aggressiveness increased. Not to take away anything from him, but the players looked tired and slow. Different eras, different style of plays.

Ιδανικός και στις τρεις θέσεις ,ως αμυντικός μέσος και επιθετικός.Παι'ζει σε όλο το γήπεδο,με απόλυτη σιγουριά και αυτοπεποίθηση ! Ως παίκτης του ποδοσφαίρου, πρέπει να κυνηγάς διαρκώς την μπάλα και να την μοιράζεις, στις σωστές μπαλιές.Αυτο καταφέρνει περίφημα μέσα στο γήπεδο.Η σφραγίδα του έμεινε στα γήπεδα που πρωταγωνίστησε.Τε'λος όταν ένας παίκτης της αναγνωρισμένης αξίας, του Φ.Μπενκμπα'ουερ διαρκώς αμύνεται και ταυτόχρονα συνεχώς επιτίθεται,δεν κάνει τίποτα άλλο.Απλως να διδάσκει τον τρόπο και την τέχνη ,του όμορφου αυτού αθλήματος
