Two awesome trains in one video! Love it. Shame this will never happen again as neither trains operate on here anymore.

The Valentas really gave a sense of power and speed and mechanical thrash........and way the turbos seem to come on song from low down.....one of the UK's greatest ever loco sounds.

Is the date correct on the video? Just wondering if it should be 2007, as 43183 is on here as an MTU, but I photted it in August '06 as a Valenta. Great video by the way!

The design of these units hasn’t stood the test of time. They’re hideously ugly, but they sound fantastic!

How is an HST hideously ugly? Actually no, let's start even earlier. HSTs are not units.

The electric will always win on first acceleration, it's not generating its own electricity unlike the HST.... and of course, the HST would catch up and overtake the EMU assuming line speed is high enough......

Rare footage. Probably the only time a Class 87 has worked a passenger train on the Great Eastern Mainline. 85 101 (formerly 85 006) did work a charter train to Walton-on-Naze once, that I was on.

Those trains are the best ever which should run serving all stations in the United Kingdom except Scotland and Wales for a good certain amount of years

My last ride with a Valenta was in 2007. I still remember hearing my first MTU engined power car and thinking " ... is that it?" 🤔

I tell you what, DB should do an engine swap with the DB BR 218's, and use the TB11 engines inside the remaining HST's to make them sound more like a Valenta!

I'm pretty sure that two TMST power cars _plus_ 6x MSOs _could easily equal_ the TGV speed record being pushed *far* above the 600km/h mark... 🚄🇬🇧🇪🇺🇫🇷💨💨💨💨💨😁❤🔥🤘

15 wagons, the permissible weight of a four-axle wagon according to UIC is 100 tonnes, so the weight of the train without locomotives is a maximum of 1500 tonnes. I watch a lot of these UK railway videos and often see two locomotives for relatively light trainsets, what is the reason for this?
