That first ram down sounded pretty squeeky and not real scratchy lead on steel sound, lol. Also, you should try a .69. More French and more hard hitting. Ive managed shots out to 175 yards on a target the size of a paper plate.

I have 19th century skates. The platform and straps are quite similar. The low platform and 14" blades handle the choppiness of wild ice well. Easier to keep up a pace than a modern short blade. An amazing resource for early American tools, barns and bridges is the Eric Sloane series. These classic books have beautiful and detailed illustrations.

I've been commissioned to make a double shot snake for a customer. It's nearly impossible to find any information on them. I'll be using bison leather with a cotton canvas lining and Irish charger head. My main issue right now is finding any dimensions on the bag/pouch. I'm sure your video is going to help me on this order. How many pounds of shot will this hold at 12" long and the 3¼" circumference? It'll help give me an idea of how large to make my costumers. Thanks
@nathanjeffery3059 Жыл бұрын
Just saw your message. I’ll check on the how much it holds. I never really checked. I just filled it. The length is what I thought comfortable on the body. There are a few images out there of double shot snakes. I think they started showing up around 1840+. Good luck! I hope your project goes well
@maddawgnoll Жыл бұрын
@nathanjeffery3059 it's all good. I found a pattern from 1966 on Tandy's website. I only used it for reference but it at least gave me an idea of how much volume is needed for 3lbs. I have a feeling that that's a bit more than the average person wants to carry. Figure 3lbs of shot, 3500ish grains of powder, the gun, and any it's accessories... he's gonna be weighed down haha. I appreciate the response though. Just wish there was more information out there about these. Before my customer asked, I never even heard of em. But I'm not a blackpowder guy.

@nathanjeffery3059 Well, one came out easily, but the other is being a little more difficult. I boiled it for 30mins each time for 3 hours, but it still wouldn't budge.
@nathanjeffery3059 Жыл бұрын
@@SamlSchulze1104 only thing I can think of is to make sure they are not still connected at the base . If cut too close to the skull they sometimes are still connected. And need trimmed further up the horn just a little bit
@SamlSchulze1104 Жыл бұрын
@nathanjeffery3059 Yep. Because it was previously mounted on a block of wood, I had cut that portion with fastening nails off(1in.). Then, cracks developed after that because the horn was thin, and another inch was removed.

I just got myself a 32 cal percussion rifle. Ive always wanted one for small game. The lock is missing and there are no markings on the gun except on the trigger housing that says "made in Belgium". I cleaned the gun up and am looking for a lock. I can't wait to fire it. It has a half stock but the one thing that has me stumped is that it don't have a ramrod or a place to put a ramrod. It must been someone's project.

I've hunted grouse with a variety of guns over the years, in a variety of calibers and gauges, and I found that #7 1/2 and #8 shot was always much better than #6. If I used #6 shot, I could hit them and fairly solid and I would lose a few even though they got whacked pretty hard. When I went to #7 1/2 and especially #8 shot, it was pretty much almost every bird that I shot stayed down when I did.
