Mine just went out at 130k on a 2017 RX450H. Called the dealer and they quoted me $4,300 and said it required the entire engine to be removed! ...my local Toyota/Lexus mechanic charged me $1,390, including thermostat, coolant, and new belts.

@@brentthomas6273 Wow that's crazy. Even the local dealer here knows that trick of doing it without removing the engine. I don't know if it's ignorance or just profit margin with your local dealer!

@@electromechanicalstuff2602 I can't remember now but I think there was a paint mark on the flywheel or something was different about that spot although I'm not sure it it actually matters. They may just make that one bolt different so you know when you have gone all the way around.

I’m about to replace an engine on my 2005 tundra but the engine is seized. In this case I would have to pull the transmission with it, correct? Anybody have a link to some forum threads on this, or 2UZ-FE engine replacement in general?

@@Stickandstringoutdoors that would be best, although you could probably pull the engine and the torque converter out together but it will make a huge mess

Just pull motor out leaving torque converter attached?? Much easier.

That's not advisable, the torque converter contains probably 8 quarts of fluid which will spill everywhere once you do that.

Gotta tell ya, you should have mentioned it was a 2004 model. It's pretty unlikely it is relevant for working on my 2015. Nevertheless, it was good to see you doing it without taking the dash apart.

Too much work. I just slide under, half inch rachet with 22mm socket to hold and spin crank bolt/balancer and zip all bolts off. Should only take 5 minutes lol.

Great tutorial, but how come you don’t just use creatine instead of rice, means you can mis that whole step

You have to be careful with what you mix supplement powders with. Most things(like creatine) either clump up, absorb water from the air, or even chemically react with the SARM. That's why supplement companies use things like rice powder, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, etc.

@brentthomas6273 I did it for fun! Had to remove it like three times thoo but my lexus with 300k might give me another 100k! And it's not 10 hrs! I did the water pump, thermostat, all gaskets, drive belt, alternator and battery! I started at 12 and finished at 7! And that's with making multiple trips to the autoparts store!

So you basically removed it from the bottom through the fender liner by removing the crankshaft pulley? Do you need a special tool to remove and torque the bolt?

I'm sorry it's been a long time and I can't remember but I think I was able to pull it up through the top after raising the engine up and removing the parts on top that were in the way

@@alouiciousjackson5812 Thanks - you mention in the job removing the crank pulley so figured. I’m attempting to DIY this and don’t have techstream to mess with any modules unplugging the ECU up top or disconnecting the AC Compressor

If you use a t20 torx low profile wrench (like the carlyle SDSLPH5) you can use that on the really hard to get screw. Also helped to have the battery disconnected after aligning the actuator shaft so it didn't move unexpectedly

I think I supported it with the shop crane before removing them but can't remember exactly now

Disclaimer: Don't try this at home. Another way you could do this is by making or buying a pair of dummy cells that will simply pass the current through them and then using just one 3.7V 10440 cell in the stack-up. I checked my current 3xAAA light and it still works at 3.6 volts, so it should still function fine with the single 10440. My only concern would be with the lack of a battery protection circuit in there. Might want to store the flashlight without the cell in it for this reason, or even get more sophisticated with your design and solder the battery protection circuit in there yourself.

Forgive my ignorance, in the video you referenced manufacturer specs for removing the engine. Where do I find these? Is it in the owners manual? Just bought a 03 sequoia. Previous owner said it needed o2 sensors. I think the engine has skipped time and may need to replace the engine. Thank you.

You will need access to manufacturer's repair info, most people get online repair data from Alldata or Chilton's(they have DIY and professional level access). You can remove the upper timing covers to check cam timing. It may be that the cam phasers are bad. It's very unlikely that the timing would skip. You can test 02 sensor function with an OBD2 scanner with live data.

Do you check your coolant to make sure it is full? Water pumps shouldn’t be going out like that. I’ve seen most water pumps last over 200K miles. If you don’t regularly check your coolant and it’s running low, it’ll damage your water pump.

They are pure rubbish. Luckily here in SE Asia they sell for around $2.50. In the half dozen or so I have had 3 were DOA, the others lasted a couple weeks. Save your time and money.
