So i recently put in one of these drives on a carrier package unit. I did the set up just like I. This video I put the motor info. Tested rotation and ran in hand all the way up to 60Hz. When in auto and calling for cooling initially it ran at 6Hz for a bit and alarmed out due to not enough amps for the current sensing relay. Can not get it to run in auto have it in hand for now so the unit will work but how do I go about fixing this issue????

You talk about motor staging on a fan wall, I was under the iimpression that for even air flow you want all your fans running at the same speed and that you can cause issues with the array when some fans are running at different speeds than others. Under what circumstances would you stage fans in an array vs having them all run at a lower rpm to provide the given CFM?
@DrivesTraining4 ай бұрын
The typical fan array runs all the fans at the same speed and provide even flow through the array and across the cooling coil. However, there are AHU OEMs who have designs where they’ve evaluated the entire wire-to-air system efficiency of the fan, motor, cooling coil, and VFD - and have identified the optimal operating points for the system. For example, at a particular operating point of a 2x2 array, it may be more efficient to run (3) fans at a higher speed, than run (4) fans at a lower speed. These “sweet spot” efficiency points are determined by the AHU OEM based on their testing and calculations. The logic for that staging control would be part of their equipment mounted supplied controls. Being able to run the motors over 60 Hz with the VFD, allows additional flexibility for such designs.

From a decidedly non professional viewpoint but as someone who only wants 220V in his shop, this is extremely valuable. Not too technical and gives you the bottom line you can use. Thanks a lot.

Funny you should mention 18 Pulse drives. Over the years I have asked at least 5 drive techs from 3 different companies what they thought of 18 Pulse drives. They all said stay away from them. While PM'ing an ABB 18 pulse 75 HP drive for a return fan found the Usual 660 to 675 Volt DC Buss to be think it was around 590 volts. This fan always ran in auto mode and never over maybe 45 Hertz. I asked to be able to power it down to troubleshoot it but told me it was too important and never gave me the okay. The AHU for it had two maybe 125 or 150 HP 18 Pulse drives that both always ran at the same time.
@TimSkell10 ай бұрын
I agree with those (5) drive techs. I mentioned 18-pulse for awareness of the technology, as there is an install base of them out there, but I never recommend them for new installations. With an 18-pulse, it essentially rectifies (9) phases to make the DC bus, instead of the typical (3) phases. Even though many expect the voltage drop across the phase shifting transformer, and additional/balancing reactor, to result in a lower DC bus... with 18-pulse we end up seeing a bit higher DC bus with the rectification of (9) phases instead of (3). Had they let you power it down to troubleshoot, and assuming the jobsite's 480V power wasn't low, the first thing I'd be looking at is those (9) phases after the transformer. Other than the obvious voltage magnitude test points between input and DC bus, I'd also be casting a critical eye on the performance of those (9) phases. Each was likely fused, check the (9) fuses to see if any were open. After the fuses, I'd check the 18 diodes, were any of those bad/open. When in doubt, current is the great equalizer of troubleshooting - check for balanced current across the (9) phases. (Some of those tests are easier to do than others - from a safety aspect, I'd have started with the fuses and diode check as those are power down tests). Complexity of troubleshooting - another reason I personally don't like 18-pulse:)

One of the best harmonic U tube vidios that I have watched. Found ABB tech support to be prima donnas that do not like to answer any questions. It took nogoodnics at ABB almost two weeks and maybe 5 emails before they finally told me how to look up the DC Buss voltage. Asked me several times why I need to know that. Da troubleshooting & placing the # on our PM'S. Contractor installed over a hundred ABB 6 & 18 Pulse drives and throw all the paperwork away. Lazy ABB tech got ignored when I asked him if their 100 HP 18 Pulse drive huge cabinets had an adjustable thermostat for large noisy cooling fans like Danfoss has. Told me he could not help me because I did not have the serial # which lazy person never asked me for but had it right in front of me so I gave it to him. Found Danfoss, Allen Bradley and years ago Fincorr to be best in class for tech support.

We’re happy to hear you found the video helpful. Regarding your experience with our technical support, thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience. At ABB we strive to provide excellent support to all our customers, and we're sorry that we fell short of your expectations in this instance. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we use feedback like yours to improve our support services. As an example that is directly tied to your scenario, our Technical Support is based out of our Wisconsin factory, while the 18-pulse are manufactured at a different US-based facility. We previously identified that our Wisconsin team didn’t have timely access to 18-pulse as-built drawings, thus our responses were not as timely as we expect. As a result, we’ve since made improvements to processes that allow that data available to be more readily available. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Where did you connect scope probe GND? None of these drives seems to have reference GND accessible.
@DrivesTraining3 ай бұрын
A differential voltage probe was used. There is no true “ground” side of a differential voltage probe that must be connected to earth ground. The “negative” side of the differential probe was connected to the negative DC bus of the drive. You are correct that many small HP drives do not have easy access to the DC bus. The ACH580-01 series drives R1 - R3 frame do not have access to the negative side of the DC bus by the power terminals, but do have access to recessed test point eye loop located above the control board (R1 and R2 frame) or to the left of the control board (R3 frame). If you did connect the differential voltage probes “backwards” across the DC bus, most oscilloscopes provide an option to invert or flip the signals on the channel.

This video uses 0.5 inWC as an example setpoint. The 0.5 inWC setpoint was chosen for illustration purposes only, to show how to program the drive. Actual setpoint is dependent on system design characteristics and the requirements of local jurisdiction. For example, the International Fire Code recommends between 0.10 and 0.35 inWC.

This helped to illustrate how the ACH580 can be used to solve specific problems in a variety of different applications. I also appreciated the discussion of how the ACH580 can be integrated with other systems, such as BAS systems. This makes it possible to create even more sophisticated and efficient HVAC control systems.

Unfortunately that is not possible. The hardware components, mainly power devices of the 9 KW drive are not the same as the 37 KW drive. A larger drive would need to be purchased.

This is a really good resource. Please note: the ACS880-01 UL Type 1 drives have 2 readily accessible RJ45 ports available just to the inside top of the control panel cradle therefore a CDPI-01 is not needed. As a reminder, the ACS880-01 Type 12 outer keypad cradle does not include the additional RJ45 ports, but the inner cradle is like that on a Type 1 with the hidden ports on the top left and right.

This is a great resources. The BCBL-01 (3AXD50000032449) cable and Drive Composer can also be used to connect to the ACS880, ACS380 and ACS480. The BCBL-01 USB to 485 (Male RJ45 connector) is a great way to connect a PC directly to an ACS880 w/out a keypad. They only need Drive Composer Basic on the PC, USB port, BCBL-01 connected to the left port on the keypad cradle. Though it is harder to get access to, the BCBL-01 can also be plugged directly into X13 on the ZCU. As a reminder, the Type 12 outer keypad cradle does not include the additional RJ45 ports, but the inner cradle is like that on a Type 1 with the hidden ports on the top left and right. In addition to having an extra ACS-AP-W, the BCBL-01, is a must for every drive specialists tool bag. Note: To connect to X13 on ZCU, it does require access to the ZCU board so all safety precautions must be followed.

Is drive composer compatible with all AC and DC drives or just with some specific ones?

@@MrMadridoo23 No. Only the newer All Compatible Drives along with the older ACS800 drives.
