I love this recording of Lena singing "Stormy Weather". Another superb version is the album, "Live On Broadway Lena Horne: The Lady And Her Music". There are two versions of "Stormy Weather" on this album. Early in the album, "Stormy Weather, Part I" is a soft and sweet recording, much as she sang it originally. "Stormy Weather, Part II" closes the show and my oh my - it is almost a whole new creation! She prefaces this version by saying, "It's taken me a lot of years to grow into it." And she sings the most heartfelt, heart-rending, and emotional version you will find. I've been listening to this recording for more than 40 years and Lena STILL makes me cry when I hear her voice ripping through the song! There are two versions on YT - this one, which does not have a video just a still shot and the incredible recording of the audio, and a video recording live from Broadway. That one is alright but it was an off night for Ms. Horne. But even on an off night, this Lady was still spectacular!

This is why no one should own KZbin; this our collective MEMORY and FREE SPEECH in the 22th Century. I'm binging on vintage Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, and Barbar Streisand.

The song, "I will say goodbye" is not from any movie, it's one of the lovely collaborations of Michel Legrand and Alan & Marilyn Bergman. Several people have recorded this sad but beautiful song.

When I was in the 3rd Grade, at 6th Ave. School in Los Angeles, I saw her at a PTA meeting. She had her son in the 6th grade, at the time. She wore her hair in 2 buns, and no makeup...lovely, kind, and gracious. I won't forget her. If there's ever a film of her life, I nominate Alicia Keyes to portray her.

Why is it that hardly anyone ever recorded Lena’s early nightclub shows, or live performances in her early years !!! It’s even rare to find these Hollywood palace performances of hers! Just imagine all the tunes she sang, that we never got to hear

Not really sure what you mean....she really started performing as a singer in the 1940s, and short of performances in films, most concerts or live club performances were not videotaped because of the expense and cumbersome nature of filming outside of the film studio setting. However, there are many filmed performances of her in the age of television.

(Cont'd) I might add that this may be the style Lena Horne gave her public as she sang with Artie Shaw, a much more subdued Horne.

Once upon a time I put an amazingly subdued Lena Horne doing "I've grown accustomed to his face," only to have it disappear inexplicably, with some lettering saying it was not for public view. Huh??? Haven't seen it sense. But the version was slam dunk and a Lena Horne as I had never seen her before.

Thanks for putting it up, but I think she could perform at this level while counting the exit signs. She knew what she was doing, and she's doing it. It's just fine, but I don't get definitive.
