I’m a huge Elvis Costello fan, as a singer myself, if I were Elvis, I’d be transposing to a slightly lower key now.

This song is criticism British colonialism around the world hence Oliver Cromwells army (he colonised, killed and committed atrocities in Ireland in Britain’s name). You need to wake up and realise that reprehensible actions again a community are far more concerning than a racial slur which draws attention to the message.

Pretty sure Bruce never mentions a red dress in any of his songs. He is confusing album 2 and album 3 of Bruce. I don’t like the way he talks about Bruce - seems condescending
@enviroevnyor952626 күн бұрын
Didn't seem condescending to me tbh, just a funny story about the differences between Springsteen's American dream & the English mentality. Costello has never been one to mince his words, there's been plenty of times he's straight up insulted artists or songs, so when he says Bruce's record is fantastic, that sounds like a genuine compliment to me

Buskers can sing and play better. A sad state of affairs. Which is a jolly good tile of a song. ❤

The new verse is clunky and lays the point home with a trowel. He’s removed my favourite verse to please reactionary idiots who don’t understand when something is being used with irony. A low point: it was perfect as it was, he should just stop performing it rather than editing it.

It was such a great honour seeing Elvis perform at the Byron blues fest several years ago the big top was jammed packed still I managed to get just a few metres from the stage he and the Imposters were amazing , thanks for coming Elvis such a great moment seeing you there ! 👍❤️🇦🇺

Not a fan of this stripped down version. Aside from the lyric change, without the piano is loses alot of the song's richness.

I was at this show, and was so happy that the one that worked with my schedule was the one where he was going to play this song, as it's one of my favorites.

A most brilliant song. The groove is complex for a 6/8 and the lyrics are in-frickin-sanely clever and the album vocal is so intense, a top track from my favorite Attractions album. EC has balls trying to sing this in this day and age. It's hard!

So why do all these old artists choose to sing the song differently then when they originally recorded it?
@mamalama72046 ай бұрын
Should have made “Trust”. One of my personal favorites of his, the melody is so beautiful and unique and Steve’s playing is beautiful beyond compare.

EC is pure class. The times are changing And peace on earth has come to pass Although the war is raging They say each war will be the last Send you overseas to the lands we plundered Till you came back home, found yourself outnumbered Got a run-in with a legal tender Sing a soldier’s song scream no surrender One man’s freedom is another man’s terror The red badge of courage, the coward’s white feather Another statistic in the margin for error One more widow, another pall-bearer
@glenrichardson63967 ай бұрын
He was originally going to change the line to “I’ve gone woke but I’m never misgendered One more widow, one less white N word” Thank god he saw sense.
