Awesome video man. May I ask what kinda accident you had to make you quit speedflying?
@milu186 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I got stuck on a post which turned me in a swing directly towards the mountain. The major impact was weakned by my left leg, the rest impact by my left hip. Through this my sacrum and symphyse broke (known as a common paragliding accident fracture) and the left side L5 S1 nerves got partialy damaged as well. I still have 1 big screw in my sacrum and a plate with 6 screws stabiliting my symphyse, as well as a minor nerve damage in the dorsal left leg. As I was already mentioning I was very lucky and I got along with minir deficits off that accident. Therfore I can normaly continue life and do what I ever did before ;-) For me the eyes opend, making me understand that I would ever execute this sports with an unexpected risk which potentially turn your life completely. And I think this is true for every extreme sports athlete and even everything in life that can be done. All in all I realized there are so much other things in my life that will make me happy (e.g. playing beach volley ball) but do carry such high consequene risks.

Nice glow, check the local news for UFO sightings. Sorry about the accident. Mountain proximity scared me a bit too (as a full time hobby) but mini wing coastal soaring is a good way I get the needed fix (much slower ground speed). 16m is still fun!

@@milu18 do you consider that it is not possible to fly safe or do not have a taste for it anymore ? Personally with a paraglider wing I did hit the mountain pretty hard after a stall-spin. Since then I have increased my margins quite a lot, and I force myself to some discipline, long approaches for landing, etc That said I understand that speedflying requires a much higher attention level

Oh I see the answer below - yea it doesnt appear that you would have enough time - it doesnt appear that speed flying wings are as susceptible to deformation as paragliders - I suspect the higher speeds is making the system more rigid ?
@milu186 жыл бұрын
The higher the speed the higher the airpressure in the wing! Also the profil itself is way less curved.
@yukonheart6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely amazing !!! Are you guys carrying reserve chutes ?

Thank you for your movies, helped me to get an idea of what progress is in this sport. Do you think Spitfire 2/ 11 is right for a first speed wing?(I am 68 kg). I already flew with a 19 m paraglide. You think this idea is too dangerous? Thanks.
@milu187 жыл бұрын
Just writing with you like this I cannot answer your question. I think the most reasonable and secure way to find out is by flying different sized wings under guidance of a teacher. Ideally you are a skier and take part in a Speedfling course (e.g. with Chillout Paragliding). There you will not only be able to try out different wing types and sizes, but also learn more about safety, weather, riding and flying technics from one of the most experienced pilots in the sports. Additionally in the end you will also receive an official licence which you can use to get official insurance as well. I really see the point of having an adventure and lots of fun by teaching yourself and everybody needs to know his way. But I can promise you you gonna have adventures anyway in this sports no matter how experienced you are. Better go with some more instructions and knowledge in the beginning, so you don't have to invent the wheel from new and you can profit from experiences from others and also make some friends to share the psyche with :P

Hi, I am happy you enjoyed Les deux alpes! I have also watched your video, looks good and you chose many routes that I have rarely been on =) If you keep on flying lots you can definitely get there if you want, but remember in the end it's just about having fun, that does not necessarily mean every pilot needs to go low. Have safe flights and dont risk to much, dont underestimate possible accidents ;-)

what level of experience do you have to have before trying this? I have just recently past my CP but I'm finding top to bottoms on my paraglider more fun
@milu187 жыл бұрын
I have a licence in skydiving as well as in paragliding (+ swiss speedfling course). By the time of the video I was actively Speedflying for about 3.5 years and had an estimate of 400 flights. I was basically going for flights whenever the weather would have allowed me to. In this period I actively downsized from a Spitfire 13 to a Mirage 9.5. Proximity flying, big swoops and manouvers like barrel rolls need many repetitions so that you are able to handle them in the max controlled way. No matter how experienced you are or how "safe" you think you fly, you should always be aware that you can never rule out accidents (I also had one a year ago, and of course I did not expect it at all...). What ever sports, as long as you are moving with high speed next to the ground, be careful. Do not rush your limits and take your time, and in case go for the more safe option ;-) On top of that have fun! :D

Small size;-) I fly a glider size 14. Is a barrel roll difficult to do? It seems so smooth how you fly it!
@milu188 жыл бұрын
Barrel rolls should not be tried just by the way! There is a big difference between wing sizes. A big wig is slower, has more resistance ,builds up bigger (radial) forces and takes more time to build them up - in the end much more sluggish. Compared to road vehicels you could say flying a barrel is like moving around a small roundabout. Now imagine you try this with a light small vehicle like a gocart.. easy? yeah !! with a lorry you cant go as fast since its much more sluggish and more heavy. I would compare your 14 m wing with a luxus limusine in this regard. More agil than a lorry but still not as agil as a small gocart. Back to the time when I flew a Spit 13 I was afraid of flying barrels, not only because I was more unexperianced, but also because the wing felt much more sluggish. It took me 2 years and several down size steps until I managed to fly my first barrel. Since then I flew hundrest of barrels. If you want to learn it to I would recommend you to begin with smooth curves, then increase and play with the dynamics of your steering and weightshifting. If you know the feeling for little curves fly them longer for some degrees step by step until you end up with fling down spirals. And if you feel confident about these you can further increase your stering impuls to make it shift from down barrel more into forward barrel. Dont force anything, try to develop a feeling for the wing behaviour, begin with the first trys at nice conditions, in high altitudes and a take a reserve with you. Most importantly stay safe and have fun! If you get into touch with other pilots or teachers, talk to them and ask them about their opinion, tipps and reflect what sound right to you ;-) best luck!

If you are located elsewhere I would advice you to look for videos from the most near local sites where you can fly and get in contact with that pilot. and in general: take what ever time you need, first go only at good conditions, don`t risk anything stupid and best get intorduced by people who are in the sport for years alrady. otherwise have a lot of fun ;-)
