Dr. Stuart delivered me (at the hospital on Hawthorne), as well as probably half the town. Sadly he passed away earlier this year.

My dad Bill Chipman raised 12 of his children while working at Chatham. He retired after working their 45 years at the age of 62! Back then that was the only place to work and I am very thankful for Chatham Company!

Since they were having such a good year, they should have bought back some of their stock to avoid the risk of a hostile takeover. Damn shame. Killed an entire town.

Back in the late 1960's it was my good fortune to live in Elkin for two years. I taught at Elkin Elementary School which was located on top of a hill and still remember how beautiful the town was.

I haven't been there yet, but I have something that links me to the town...
