The split yoke is a step backward in my opinion. The true binary system is the most simple system you can have. I have had every Hoyt bow since they went to the true binary (Ventum, Ventum Pro, VTM, Alpha X, RX7, RX8, etc.) and have had ZERO problems with cam/wheel lean. These bows have tuned easily and in most cases changing the spacers is not needed and when it is needed it is about a 2 minute process. The cool thing is this. If you love a smooth draw, super smooth, keep your RX8 Ultra. If you want tiny bit more speed, pick up the RX9 Ultra. You will shoot both bows the exact same (i.e. the RX9 will not make you a better shooter). Truly zero innovation from Hoyt this year, but that does not mean they are not great bows. The most innovation this year is, by far, Darton. If we are honest.
@TrinityWild2 күн бұрын
When I pressed them on why the change back to that yoke I don’t feel like I got a very good answer. Don’t get me wrong, I love the bow and I’m not going to make any judgements until I can run a few hundred arrows thru it. Smooth, fast and dead in the hand. What more do I need? Is it smoother, faster and more dead in the hand than the RX8? I guess we will have to see. And I agree, I’m kind of intrigued by the Darton.
@huntsimple95272 күн бұрын
@@TrinityWild I appreciate your comments. My son shot a RX9 Ultra yesterday right next to his RX8 Ultra. These 2025 Hoyt's are great bows, there is no doubt. He said the draw cycle reminded him almost exactly of the Mathews Lift - more stiff. He said they are truly dead on the shot. He did not notice any difference in hold, stability, etc. I truly think Hoyt is offering a bit more velocity this year, but the shoot-ability and overall feel is no different than last year. This gives people choices. Interestingly my archery shop said the rollout of inventory from Hoyt is much slower this year. Last year on launch day he had like 40 bows in stock, this year he said his order won't show up until perhaps late January. I cannot for the life of me understand these manufacturers releasing a product and not have it available at the same time. Weird. For what it is worth, of all the brands, my show is most excited about the coming Prime (early December). Should be interesting!

The Proprietary nocks are a little annoying. And the fact that you can't have the option to rope cock kinda stinks. After all that's the reason why Excalibur shines. Is the simplicity & less moving parts. At this point, they're know different from Ravin & Tenpoint now. They're just shooting much slower fps.
@TrinityWild6 күн бұрын
That Rev X being so narrow is the reason they have to design the crank that way. I love the way it operates but you are right, kind of defeats the purpose of the simple recurve crossbow.

Buy a fat wrench for torqing scopes screws
@TrinityWild7 күн бұрын
That’s a good idea. Not too expensive either. Only about $50 for a small kit. I’ll put a link in the description to one.

Thanks for this tip! 👍 To be honest, I did not understand the “fat” reference, which seemed counter-intuitive for precision work on small scope screws, so I decided to look it up. In case anyone else is confused, here is the manufacturer’s product description… Manual Firearms Accurizing Torque (FAT) Wrench The Wheeler Engineering FAT Wrench is an essential tool for gunsmiths and firearms enthusiasts. From installing a scope to making adjustments, this reliable tool saves time and accurately torques screws to spec. The FAT Wrench features a standard 1/4" hex drive tip and can be used to apply torque from 10 to 65 in-lbs at 5 in-lbs increments. With proper care and use, the FAT Wrench will provide you with a lifetime of reliable service. - Align the marker with the center of the desired torque value - Designed for +/- 2 in-lbs accuracy up to 40 in-lbs, +/- 5% over 40 in-lbs - Can be used to apply torque to any fastener, it is not limited to firearms and firearm accessories - Includes 9 bits and a square drive adapter - Compatible with bits from the Wheeler 72-Piece and 89-Piece Screwdriver Sets - Always protect the area surrounding the screw with masking tape to prevent marring of metal and wood finishes, just in case a bit slips out while tightening - Functions like a screwdriver, it is not a ratcheting device

I have Wicked Ridge, Lube the rail every 4 shots, and Wax my string every 25 shots. String is still Fraying, servings loose near the cams and center serving is worn down from rubbing the rail after I would bet less than 150 total shots.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Serving separation is pretty normal but after only 150 shots that seems a little soon. If the serving on the string itself gets cut then you gotta get that replaced.

Good one. After seeing the 3D printed ones for an insane amount, first thing I thought of was a small diameter piece of rod with a 90 deg bend on one end for a little grab handle or an allen wrench like you’re using. I’ve got a couple of Prusa MK3S+ printers and Snapmaker J1S IDEX printers, if I could get the STL file I’d print a ton of ‘em with PETG or PLA+ and sell ‘em a helluva lot cheaper plus the little shipping. And I’ve yet look but the STL file may be out there on Printables, Thingiverse, etc.

I had mentioned this to you in another vid comment…my new R10X I bought a couple of weeks ago came with ceramic roller balls vice the roller discs/wheels. Maybe Ravin is putting this new ceramic roller ball rest on the latest manufactured models vice the discs/wheels for this very reason. If so, thumbs up to Ravin. I had already eyeballed buying the stainless roller ball rest like you’re showing here, before the R10X arrived but don’t think it would be any advantage over the ceramic roller ball rest mine came with.

This really isn’t faster than the Nitro 505. My 505 will do 521 fps with the 400 gr. It will also do 504 with the 445 gr. Truth is, there’s a lot of 505’s out there just like that. Most 505’s are doing a good deal faster than factory specs. The engine of the two crossbows are basically the same. The 505 has been very accurate for me, but it’s heavy! The weight hasn’t really hindered me, but the reduction in weight is a positive change for the 515.

I have a Nitro 505. Very accurate and no problems. The 505 has more power and speed then any moderately demented crossbow junkie could ever need and a lot more. If you’re hunting T-Rex, the 505 is great! Problem is, over penetration is an issue. Perhaps you need a plan for recovering your arrows. So far I have not lost one. I’ve been lucky! It’s a matter of time. To think of something even more powerful is overwhelming. If I may say so, it’s not needed. Whatever floats the boat!
@TrinityWild10 күн бұрын
I’ve had a few of the 505 come back with string issues after only 20 or do shots. Change out the strings for them and they are usually good to go after that.

Let me ask you something…my new R10X was delivered day before yesterday and I set everything up, mounted/torqued base and scope, etc last night. One thing I noticed right off the bat was the rest…the factory standard rest on mine has two ceramic balls vice the two ceramic discs/wheels. Have they updated this standard R10X rest to the balls vice discs on the latest models, or do I possibly have a model that is a little older and the latest is the version with discs? I know their premium upgrade rest has the two stainless balls in it, but was just curious. The factory shot card with fps test on it chrono’d 428 at the factory so that’s certainly a plus. I’ve got two different chrono’s and will certainly shoot over both this wknd when I sight the scope in, to verify fps. This R10X is a crazy nice crossbow, made very well and handles damn good. At 6’3”, I let the butt stock out an inch and half and locked it down there and it shoulders really well for me.
@TrinityWild29 күн бұрын
You will love that crossbow. I think those little balls are the newer version. The disc will get flat spots on it after a while. But that new rest is definitely worth the money to upgrade. Good luck go whack ‘em and stack ‘em.
@usmc615729 күн бұрын
@@TrinityWild Appreciate the info on the rest. I’m gonna run it like it is with the ceramic ball rest for now. I’m not sold on the fact that the stainless ball version would really be any improvement…only thing I see different in this case is the ball material, other than that I’m sure they would both function absolutely identical. I ran about 15 bolts through it yesterday evening before it got dark, had it dead nuts sighted in with the first four shots at 20 yds…pulling the bolts after each shot, and glad I did pull them after each, I was key-holing the same holes moving around the target to different bullseyes. That Big Shot 24” Extreme 500 is a damn good target, stops the bolts dead in their tracks. I’ve got several older McKenzie 3D full-size deer, hog, bear, and turkey targets as well as a few older Block 22” targets and I’m not sure I want to shoot this bad boy at any of those. I may play hell getting the bolts out of the McKenzies and I’m afraid it’ll shoot through the older Block 22” targets. Think I’m just gonna buy two or three more of the Extreme 500 targets so I don’t have to move the one 500 target around so much that I currently have. I’ll chrono the bolts tomorrow as well when I shoot and holler back at ya with what it’s doing speed-wise (428 fps on factory test card) while I’m dialing the scope in for the 50-yd shots. Thx again buddy for hollering back at me with the rest info.

@goldentrucker7921 the 340 has either an engineering or manufacturing flaw in the rail system. The long main rale does not match up with the short limb rale. The bolt does not leave the bow perfectly strait. I went to bass pro and inspected other Excalibur bows and they were all strait and I line. I looked at another 340 and it had the same problem as my 340. The bow is flawed and Excalibur would not refund my money . I liked the other Excalibur bows but their not in my price range. Excalibur built a cheap bow, and that's what I got, A cheap bow.

I have been shooting Excalibur (along with a few others) since 2007. They really screwed two things up in my opinion . 1) they went from the Guardian anti-dry fire to their supposed to be “improved” cease fire. 2) The Rhino nock for this “ improved” cease fire anti-dry fire system. They have always been a KISS (keep it simple stupid) company until they came out with this crap. Excluding the Rev X everyone of their crossbows with this “ improved” anti-dry fire system requires you to have a de cocking tool to attach to the string so you can decock the bows. REDICULOUS You forgot to mention 3 things: 1) with the Rhino nock when loading an arrow to shoot, you have to push it all the way back till you hear the click. This disengages the anti-dry fire system. 2) When de cocking the bow, you can let go of the handle at any time and it won’t freely backwind because of the clutch in the crank. 3) This crossbow does not have a string groove behind the scope rail to manually cock it by hand with a rope if the crank system should fail or need repaired.
@randallflores-qr8csАй бұрын
I agree with you completely.....no one wants that complex garbage. I also wonder how expensive those proprietary bolts are. Mathews was pulling the same $hit with their proprietary metal half moon nocks a few years ago. With all the competition in the crossbow market these days, how do these scumbags think they are going to get away with screwing guys on overpriced, over complex garbage? There are many higher quality, user friendly crossbows for half the price.
@TrinityWildАй бұрын
Those are great catches. Thank you. I really meant to talk about being able to let it go while de-cocking it. As far as the manual cocking, I mentioned that to my rep. It hopefully will be something they will address going forward. Thanks so much for your feedback.
