This is quite colossal! I've only ever heard Jean Guillou himself play this, of course on his own instrument at Saint Eustache. This really proves, even more so, how Aristide Cavaille-Coll was so much ahead of his time. Music composed nearly 100 years after this organ was built seems right at home, as much as the music of Widor or Vierne. 🙂

Hello Jean-Baptiste, so nice playing. I would like to know which registration you used in recit and positiv. It is such a marvellous organ, one of my favorite. With the chararcteristic of a lion and deer.

...a totally awesome performance of this sork played with intensity and fire. Sadly I cannot save it to my library. ETA: was a glitch in KZbin as I was finally able to save it.

Let this musical instrument masterpiece of Cavaille-Coll be a lesson as to what can be lost if we do not pursue our musical dreams & ambitions. I played this instrument some 10 years ago. It is a stepping stone to tonal heaven , and must be preserved for all eternity ! Chris Smith (Australia).

Only today I discovered this wonderful work. This is exactly how this fugue should be played, decisively, danceably, with a strong accent, rhythm, almost like an organ scherzo, wonderful, wonderful❤❤❤

I am shocked at the incredibly poor state of the keyboard (missing ivories, etc.) and crescendo pedal. This instrument desires better than this.

This video is three years old. I believe it’s in the process of restoration now. Remember, it’s still is as it was when Cavaille Coll built it in 1890. I think it’s held up well.

I don’t think there is a restauration in process. There was a discussion with the organist in novembre but he was telling me that everybody (organ factories) are afraid of touching this instrument.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about M.P. Moller. Their organs are ok, but far from the best American organs. Austins are much better.

You certainly have a right to your opinion. It does beg the question, "What are some examples of 'above average performances' that meet your standard of excellence?" Please share the links, I would love to hear them! It seems your definition of average is: 1) playing by memory, 2) playing note perfect (or very nearly so), 3) choosing and maintaining an appropriate tempo, 4) executing registration changes flawlessly, all while having hands and feet full of notes! OK, then I would LOVE to give an "average" performance of this and a lot of other pieces! That would be a dream come true!

Magistral !

As others have commented here - perfect tempo. One of the things this tempo and general pacing does is allow the music to breath. Thrilling but spacious. Thank you!
