It wasn't the Somme, it was Ypres, but My Grandmother lost two of her brothers in the First World War. She was only about twelve when they died. She lived to be 82, but even seventy years later, she wept when she spoke of them. I am glad to have their photographs, and the stories that their little sister told of them. I shall remember!

I can’t help but think that, if anyone who fought and died for our country, if they could see what the country has turned into, they’d think, "Why did we even bother!" Because the our once great world leading nation has just gone! It would be unrecognisable to the brave men and women who sacrificed so much for us all! It’s very much frowned upon to display any nationalistic pride! We can’t speak up for our own people anymore. We have to bow down to multiculturalism, because if you don’t, you’re a racist and a bigot! We should be allowed to call out this woke multiculturalism agenda with all its faults, making British people treated like second class citizens in our own country! We should be shouting as loud as we can, WE ARE BRITISH AND WE,ARE PROUD! ✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧

This is an amazing event and I am sad to say I have not seen this before. If you could walk past these men and not break down, then you don’t give damn about the people that came before you. At first I thought it was a reenactment group, but after about twenty seconds in I understood what was happening. These men are there because they have always been there, they never left. It would make everyone that loves their country cry and fall to their knees if all of its dead heroes from the past until today were walking around like that. In the US we would have the Revolutionary War until the GWOT Wars heroes. That would be far too much for a citizen to comprehend. I don’t think we would have enough water in our bodies to produce that large amount of tears.

Fabulous workshop, thank you. Is it possible to add more of the plays and playwrights mentioned as the transcript doesn't always translate well enough to make the names or titles plain.

A large portion of those men who fought in WW1 were coerced and "shamed" into joining up to fight for a government who didn't allow them to vote if they didn't own their homes.

I am here because of good fortune, i am here because Cpl Tommy Rivers survived the Somme. He never spoke of the war, he never returned to France and when he came home he put his medals in a tin. If i ever asked him about his medals, as a Yorkshireman he said " they dunt mean nowt lad, war is a bloody waste of time" Lest we forget Amen

Ok. So what was written in the cards? I think it would have been better if there was some context given, if someone explained what's happening and what's the purpose, how was everything brought together.
@AussieGazza116 сағат бұрын
each card was a soldier who died in ww1. The display is mostly young men who went to war only to never return home and the "we're here because we're here" as i interpret is previous generations died for us so we are here today living a better life. The video was uploaded 8 years ago, once again only assuming this was created to mark the end of ww1 and remember those who went through a shocking time in history.
@SourojitBh16 сағат бұрын
@AussieGazza1 Hmm. 8 years ago was 2016, WW1 ended in 1918. And shouldn't that quote be "You're here because we were there" ? And I can't help thinking, the people being honoured through all these projects and monuments, are they really innocent? Were they really fighting for ideals like freedom, equality, justice.. ?
