His old school Australian accent is calming, But today’s Australian accent makes me cringe and get anxiety.

Yes, his accent IS calming, but also charming, IMO. Very pleasant on the ear. None of the ghastly, back-of-the-throat Vocal Fry that young journos seem to affect nowadays. Davis was very articulate too, with a vocabulary that was a free from the banalities and cliches that are so annoying in the speech of media types today! He said what he had to say clearly, and it’s obvious that he prized accuracy, as he sometimes clarified or re-phrased a statement, in the interview tapes that were made not as final ‘to air’ pieces but as info sources for both the book and the doco. Admirable, IMO, in comparison with too many of the long winded spiels we hear now.

On your retirement from radio, Phillip, all we can hope to do is thank you for all those late nights curled up under the doona or daytime rides through town as you interviewed a herd of incredible, brilliant minds. Life will take some adjustment, but we have your wonderful back catalogue to keep the legacy going. ❤🤟

0:59 brilliant brilliant business man, absolutely made those idiot politicians at the inquiry look like the complete morons they usually are. The country needs another couple of Kerry Packers to get business and jobs going again and bring back solid media entities rather than the muck raking parasites we have now. The king is gone but not forgotten!

I"m glad liar and fraud Nick Mckenzie didn't win, but it's a disgrace that he was even nominated. During the same year, he not only lost a defamation lawsuit, and was ordered to pay $550K, but the judge agreed that his work was "dishonest and misleading.' Discovery revealed that he lied and committed fraud, He falsified the evidence his own "investigation" uncovered, so as to hide the truth from the public, and to deceive them into believing a lie.

Well Kerry had the professional ability to ask the hard questions of our political leaders.once, twice and possibly 3 times. When he didn't get his answer he moved on. The public then knew the answer. A lesson to younger and up and coming members of the gallery! I am still waiting for his ilk to appear again.

I won a defamation lawsuit against Nick Mckenzie. Discovery proved he told multiple lies, committed fraud, falsified evidence, and deliberately mislead the public. His conduct was so egregious that it could not have been confined to that one report. I'm sure he is a lair and a fraud consistently with respect to everything he does. He likely doesn't deserve any of the awards that he's won. He is a disgrace to his profession.

Review by Apollo’s Eldest Son: Paul Anderson This book is Fictional especially in regard to Apollo, written by an unknowledgeable writer who was lucky to meet my father a handful of times in his youth, relying on our archival input. The family was assured by Faine at the start of the project that the book was to be factually correct through our full inclusion in draft checking, the only reason we would contribute to it’s creation. This was removed after final draft, the family almost totally blocked from editing, despite Faine’s Trust me promise. Faine had created a Tall tale, which was withheld to our disgust & surprise until publication. There are embellishments on many levels to suit his ill qualified narrative, despite the verified facts supplied by the family. Apollo’s gym, living conditions, character, mind set, retrieval of items, elderly visit, funerals, author’s many interactions with Apollo; all fictional story creation. There are numerous misquotes, time line mistakes & Apollo performance description errors. Additionally family accounts regarding Thelma were totally ignored. Yet her disgraceful death description was included, the sons totally unaware of this inclusion until the book reading! Apollo’s struggle with the closed social welfare system to regain & visit his children also disregarded. The True story of Apollo, not present in the book, will be posted, supported by archival evidence. Our betrayal in the book creation process is also verifiable in emails & voice memos. This is not the book Faine promised our Family, one that we would be proud of, fair & accurate. At least he was honest changing the sub title from an ‘Incredible True Story’ (shown to us), to ‘A True Tall Tale.

Iv been listening to Pilger since the 60s when we had so many real journalists, he is among a small that remains very few have been added. The industry has come to heel and been been made aware who is paying there salaries. The watchdog of democracy has got fat and lazy. Respect to John Pilger, shame on the majority .

Hail radios !! The current disrespectful, inane & utterly stupid long- form journalism is a pain in the anus for most people. This experiment undoubtedly FAILED. It came into being as many journalists had few things to write about. Yes, their employers’ cost cutting led to this deplorable writing & reporting style in publications. Belatedly, the polar opposite will emerge as short-form journalism, due to ubiquitous protest via collapsing subscriptions. Happy Days continue for radio expansion, with timely short-form news every 30 minutes.

Fun fact: Aussie ambulances didn't carry defibrillators well into the 90's. When Packer had a heart attack he was lucky that the ambulance that responded had a personal defibrillator and he was saved. He then donated money so that all ambulances in NSW would be supplied with devices, which are sometimes called "Packer Whackers" after him
