Why were they called mountain lions? It seems like they roam all areas including lowlands, flatlands, coastal regions, etc. Did most of them head for the hills as human settled in cities?

I have to agree that a wolf's bite force would be even lower than 1,500 pounds of force for these two reasons. . Firstly, extant canids aren't are optimized for crushing bones as much as the extinct Borophaginaes (especially Epicyon haydeni), felids, hyenas, ursids due to the size and shape of both of their skull, carnassial, and masseter muscles. . Secondly, we actually have scientific papers and tests showing the bite force of wolves themselves including the 2007 paper by Stephen Wroe and Per Christiansen along with Brady Barr and Peggy from National Geographic. The former has estimated that a 35.5 kilogram/78 pound wolf would bite down at 773.9 newtons/174 pounds of force at its carnassials. Of course, wolves can get larger than this with the largest verified individual weighing in at 79.4 kilograms/175 pounds. So if we scaled this up volumetrically, then the largest wolf would bite down at 1731 newtons/389 pounds of force. This would mean that a wolf would not be able to crack a human femur, which takes about 3,300 newtons/742 pounds to crack, or a femur, which takes about 4,000 newtons/899 pounds to crack. For the latter however, they have measured that a 100 pound/45 kilogram wolf can bite down at 406 pounds of force when defending itself from other predators or in this case humans cornering it. If you scaled this up volumetrically, it would then bite down at 908 pounds of force when defending itself against other packs of wolves, bears, or even hunting dogs. Now I am not sure which of these options is more reasonable, but it is safe to say that it would be a stretch to say that wolves can bite down at 1,200 pounds to 1,500 pounds of force.

Cooter, a rescue we took in at 4 weeks now 16 weeks and a member of the family. She can wreak havoc on a tidy room if she doesnt get enough outdoor play time. When shes upset she covers her eyes with her hands. She eats with us and she sleeps with each of us throughout the night. She doesnt just sleep near us she actually plays with our ears, gives kisses and nudges like a cat while purring. She like to fall asleep suckling on our fingers and touching our face. She can get very aggressive when playing. She plays with us and uses biting to do so. She can bite very hard and has drawn blood a few times but for the most part when we say ouchy she lessens the severity of the bites to nibbles. I am grateful we found eachother bc she has brought joy to all of us. These animals have no time for handlers who do not respect their space. Treat them right and youll have a awesome buddy. If you have a bad experience maybe your not a coon person.

He was docile friendly and listened to what I told him!! Never aggressive!! I feed him grapes peanuts hotdogs and cookies !! He would wash everything in his bucket that I provided so he had fresh water daily!! He was a charm !! ❤

great video. learned quite a bit :) 🌷🌱 but - umm - what? that’s what bears do (live off of stored fat). so bears hibernate - then what do you call what raccoons do? you should have told us! As what you said is very confusing. it seems raccoons “enter a state of inactivity called torpor and spend most of the winter in their dens.“ their temperature goes below 15*F and they can sleep for weeks at a time. they do wake up at various intervals to eat and drink, and stretch, then go cuddle up again and go to sleep. while bears sleep the whole winter. 🦝🦝🦝🦝🐻🐻🐻🐻🌨️❄️🌨️☃️🌤️🌲🌲

7:19 i know some of you out there know karate and all that, and i’ve learned a few very handy tricks myself. but when i was a kid, this is the way girls fought with boys, although most of it was play fighting. you can do a lot of damage though, if you need to !! 😌🌷🌱

Beleive it. Large gray wolves are widely know to have a bit force of 1000 - 1500 PSI....They've been known to snap a calfs spine with their jaws. Not sure why people have such a hard time believing this. Hyenas have a similar bite force....yet people have trouble believing a massive 150lb wolf does too?

One fact about Raccoons (Trash Pandas) that nobody will tell you is Raccoons, Skunks & Armadillos all went to the same Dubious Road Crossing School. In certain areas of North America Raccoons are makeing a real push to become the Dominate species.

Its a myth that Tigers are bigger than Lions, and very rarely do they reach close to 700 lbs. In fact, more adult male Siberians were under 400 lbs than they were above 500 lbs.
