one of the most difficult things to begin to play the steel guitar is the entonation, and playing jazz riffs, Buddy was one of the greatest players.

The riff at the end is just ethereal. Oh, to have been there that night! At least we have this wonderful video. Thanks for posting.

Big E did it again, made steel a premier jazz instrument.Don't usually see that many C6 steelers playing at once either. Great band, the sax player could have hung with any US jazz band also.

Major respect and appreciation for that sax player for sure! I may be a bit off, but I bet he's a big Coleman Hawkins fan. Either way, he's got great tone and chops!

Big E is the indisputable steel guitar GOAT.

This stuff is so scary, it makes me want to throw my picks in the trash, well almost. I think the Big E almost outdid himself on this session. I can't believe in all my years, I never heard or watched his Japanese stuff. What a band, what a steel player, what a joy to watch this stuff. Marc Trainor.

I heard in the obituary that a Stoney Stonesipher passed away. Is that the man who was part of Scotty’s steel guitar convention?

Who's the fiddle player noodling over the top of your solo? Or is that the new hip thing?

Scotty did so much for the steel guitar. I had the pleasure to meet him in 1997. I came from France to Saint Louis.

Blue Jade is my all time favourite melody that Buddy wrote , he plays it beautifully here, I don't think I've heard him play it with as much feeling as he did here .

Buddy using a local Japanese steel. Good to see even Buddy misses the odd note, just like us mere mortals.

Thank you so very much for putting this on KZbin. This is some of the best camera work of buddy in his prime there is. So much to take away from seeing every bar movement… this is massive, thank you again. Found footage of my greatest musical hero.
