Worst video in the topic of pruning

Lovely to see you again. It’s funny how plants all have their own schedule. I’m way down in Tennessee and my hydrangea have barely begun to bud, but my rose bushes have all sprouted new leaves and the crabapple is just beginning to flower. The bumble bees and and red wasps are out, too, so it’s time to break out the long gloves when pruning.

Such a beautiful Spring garden Jean. That Amaryllis behind you is gorgeous. What is the bright coral/red colour branches to the right of the Penstemon? Cheers from Roxanne in snowy 🇨🇦.
@JeanKnox95 Жыл бұрын
Hello Roxanne, thanks for your comment. Yes, the Amaryllis has taken an age to get going but at last it is, as you say, gorgeous. The bright gold/red branches belong to Cornus (Dogwood) Midwinter Fire. I've raved about it so much in previous vlogs because it's just beautiful in winter. The trick is to cut all the branches down to just a few inches when the leaves start to grow every year in the spring, as new wood has the best colours. It's very hardy here but I don't know whether your winter might be too brutal for it? Worth a try! Jean x
@emptynestgardens9057 Жыл бұрын
@@JeanKnox95 I had a feeling it was a Dogwood but I've not seen that magnificent colour before. Here in Ontario, Red Osier Dogwood is native. I'm fairly new to your channel so I will go back through your videos to find it growing in other seasons.

NOT very helpful - with any °Close - Up - Pictures° of How this Dutch - Hoe is (1) USED, (2) At Which Angle & (3) WHICH of the °Dutch Hoe° group is being used. Also NO Mention of How to REMOVE Perennial Weeds. (Which would have been Very useful. Japanese Anemones = to Weeds - the way they spread so RAMPANTLY - Throughout the WHOLE garden (If they're NOT kept in Check !

Can you give me the exact plant name 😀

The plant is Taxus baccata, the common yew.

Love the idea. How big was your yew when you first started the pom poms?

I think it was probably about 120cm tall and it is still not much more than that.

Thanks, Lindsay, I'm so pleased these videos have been helpful. There should have been one more in the series, about planting, but my house was badly damaged when a car drove into it and, although the back garden is fine, the house is uninhabitable and my laptop, with all the video clips, etc, is buried under rubble and probably dead.

Just found your channel, I’ve just started this year to garden. My property has been a mowed wasteland until now, but I’ve retired and have the time to do something with it. I think your videos on garden planning have convinced me I’ll have to get out the graph paper and do the paper work as I clear the beds and start testing plants. Best regards to you and Tosh.

Thanks for your kind comments. When I started doing these "designing from scratch" videos I was really quite surprised myself how truly logical it all was. I suppose I'm a bit of a "trial & error" person, and these videos are the outcome of all the errors! But so much is just common sense, isn't it? Good luck with your garden clearance!

Thanks for your kind comments. It really was a remarkably simple thing to do, and very effective, but it probably took me a good couple of years to bite the bullet and make the first cut. Looking back, it did look quite scruffy after the first cut but it has improved year on year, so don't be disheartened if it isn't immediately stunning! Perfection takes time!
