We have already had the first AI murder Harrison. A Chatbot from Belgium convinced a man to kill himself because of Climate Change. China has a serious problem with AI girlfriends gathering state secrets from the massive single population. We are scratching the surface of the AI problem. Hypersuasion is a REAL issue. Pricing Optimization, Energy issues, Job Displacement. We better get a handle on this.

18:56 I would say that most work has two underlying aims. Making a profit and providing value. Our need to earn a profit usually motivates us to learn how to provide value but sometimes people will, out of desperation to fulfill basic needs, only be concerned about profit and lose their natural appreciation for creating value for others. The more AI can relieve us of the need to make profit the more we will be able to sensitize ourselves to our innate interest in providing value to others. We will still work but we will have more freedom to make impact driven decisions and to maintain integrity in our fields without needing to compromise on our values. In other words, economic and creative interests will become more aligned.

Great insights! In my experience leading forum-style sessions, I often ask participants about their purpose, and it never ceases to surprise me how many struggle to answer. If your perspective holds true, it could foster a much happier society and potentially reduce the levels of depression, anxiety, and division we’re seeing today. Appreciate you getting in the conversation! ~Harrison

No one goes to college to become a coder, they go to become a programmer. Coding is to programming what typing is to writing. An AI coding assistant will improve your productivity as a programmer. (I am doing Computer Science at university right now.)

What proof do you have that we are older than 6000 years old 😂🤣 man the arrogance of man is unbelievable, there was no such thing as the Stone Age bud. We were created 6000 years ago in the garden of eden by our LORD YHWH who came 2000 years ago to save us from our own sin and is coming again very soon and all technologies come from fallen angels

The biggest investors in AI technology are enemy militaries, that are more advanced behind the scenes than anything the public is aware of. The undoubted goal of such an AI will be to infiltrate and conquer any competing AI. We are doomed as a species because of this recipe for AI production. Humans will most likely experience dystopia and calamity before these competing AI ever reach the awareness level needed for nuance and forgiveness and love.

It's already in control, but we need to accept AI or not. At this point we don't as regular people know how much of our lives are affected by AI. Especially with now the NPUs in everything in 2024. Neural processing units for machine learning kind of like a GPU but specifically used by the AI for machine learning

It has always been the question, why would you go to university to learn to code? Even 30 years ago I learnt more on the job as a programmer than people who come out of a computer science degree. I had to mentor these graduates and had only two years on the job and was way ahead of them. The universities were way behind the latest technology and what was actually being used in the industry.

@@DarthDread and things today are moving even faster. Universities are going to need to figure out how to stay relevant. Education will become more customizable to the students needs, and less expensive over the next decade.

i think we went through a tinkerers age in the last few hundred years until the last half century or so, where the everyman was a major contributer in coming up with the tech and gadgets we have today. and we became efficient enough we saturated society with something for everything fairly quickly. in came computers, and coding was pretty much requisite in filling out that ecosystem, but weve still been very efficient aat it, aand there is almost an app for anything. all that put us at a stagnantion almost with not enough bulk of new things needed to be invented. now comes AI, and in my mind it is the newest tool for mankind that will be easily enough utilized by everyday people that the rate of innovation will follow the same patterns of the past. The growth of its functionality may even be faster to develop than how weve done things in the past, and we will see major changes in how it interacts in our lives on almost everything. those tinkering mindset people are already doing things that im in awe of, its just not mainstream yet as its so new. robotic ai helpers of all shapes and sizes for tasks of every imaginable endeavor will be on the scene within 5 years i bet. hobbyists will pave the way, as they already have the skills and proficiency in creative pastimes. just need to get the AI up to par, still too many logic errors in it, but that surely will evolve swift enough.

New viewer here; thanks for the show. I don't know much about Chris, but It doesn't seem like he's keeping up with the rate of progress in AI. He might be right that "not all" software engineers will disappear within five years, but 90% of them will, because it will accelerate development to such a rate that the remaining software engineers will transition to primarily software design and architecting -- they won't be 'coding' per se. What's the ratio of architects to programmers on a given project? Typically 1 : 10. Case and point. He keeps drawing parallels in history, but AI has no comparable precedent -- this is automation of the human brain and body. Massive amounts of money is pouring into the AI industry for research and it's showing no signs of slowing down -- quite the opposite.

I'll chalk that up as a vote for Team Harrison! I appreciate your insight. I agree on the no comparable precedent. An prime example was shown yesterday. I noticed Tesla stock went down today after all of the announcements at We, Robot last night. My understanding is investors don't feel Tesla can deliver in the time frame given. Does that really matter? The fact is Tesla will deliver, and Optimus and Cybercab will change the world as we know it. People just are not ready or able to understand what is happening. My question is how many people will a $30K robot replace, and how quickly can we re-skill to protect ourselves? ~Harrison

5:03 I think these tools can change the way we use and digest information for the better. For me personally it has helped me understand subjects in a larger context being able to have AI write outlines helps me grasp a bigger picture and then make a better choice as to where to focus in in more detail.
